Every night, Lovelace here jumps onto the dresser, leans against the dyson, and meeps until I pet her.

I’m sure I’ve shared this picture/story before, but I must beg for an indulgence here: she’s damned elusive photographic prey. I have like three hundred photos of “fan time” as we call it, and a hundred grainy-ass sasquatch-quality snaps of her fleeing in the darkness behind furniture or the dog.

Several years ago, the caught some right-wing flack for mentioning birth control or periods or human rights or something that said right-wingers are opposed to.

Boycott they said, so of course I did the exact opposite. And so every year, I buy cookies from every last Girl Scout who drifts into my gravity well.

Are you a Scout? Do you want to sell like ten boxes of Adventurefuls and Thin Mints to a total rube? DMs are open!

And furthermore, if you don't have a hookup for cookies, Troop 6000 is the Girl Scout program based in the NYC homeless shelter system, and they sell cookies online too. I try to support Bay Area troops where I can, but this is where the bulk of my cookie money goes.

Politically, he is Joe Biden with hair, although he did once do something positive for the LGBTQ+ community, which is better than “I voted for DOMA” Biden.

And, since he hasn’t taken a stand on Joe’s gold-level sponsorship of the Israeli Genocide and War Crimes Festival, he can probably get enough votes to win Michigan.

Biden is a fascist. There's nothing else to explain why Biden doesn't attack Trump over his greatest weakness - that he's a traitor who lead a violent insurrection.

The best Biden can muster is to say that Trump "supported" the insurrection.

That he feels like it's better politically to not engage in a full-throated attack on Donnie Two Chins violent crimes says a lot about Biden and none of it is good.

If Dems actually want to hold on to the White House, they need to kick Biden to the curb. They won't because they're fine with how things are as long as they are rich and powerful.

Americans won't, but at some point, it would be nice if we got way smarter.

I'm "not enthusiastic" about Biden, in the sense that I'm not enthusiastic about genocide or weak-willed liberal politics-as-usual or continuing Trump's immigration policies or refusing to use the power of the presidency to do fucking anything, but please, lecture me about how young people need to realize that it's this or fascism. I'm sure that'll move the needle.

I cannot stress highly enough that it's not that young people (of which I am not one, by the way) aren't "enthusiastic" about Biden. It's that they're fucking tired of being told that it's this or fascism so shut up. What happened to the idea that a politician had to earn their votes?

Rather than lecturing young people about the consequences of their "lack of enthusiasm" or you can join them in being fucking pissed off that Biden is doing sweet fuck all to earn their goddamn enthusiasm. And if you think that's not a problem, how about the fact that he's losing Black people? Or maybe you think it's racist to criticize Black people for their lack of enthusiasm? How about Muslim Americans?

The Democrats seem to think that they've got a lock on the youth vote, the Black and brown vote, and women, and they don't need to do ANYTHING to earn that goddamn vote. That's not lack of enthusiasm. That's lack of representation.

And anyway, "not enthusiastic" is news-media-speak for "pissed off about his policies," not, " ultimately not going to vote as harm reduction." So miss me with your moralizing screeds about how young people need to be enthusiastic about a politician who has shown almost no concern for them. I'm not fucking enthusiastic about voting as harm reduction either, but I'm going to do it because as you so love to point out, it's this or fascism.

This anology works TREMENDOUSLY well on a secondary level.

Because there are multiple people in this country who have received death sentences in part because of corrupt or incompetent court-appointed defense lawyers.

Some of them have been executed, because the 1994 crime bill (which takes credit for a drop in crime that had started organically three years earlier) cuts off appeals. And who wrote that bill?

Saturday.
The goal today was to get deployed on the cluster. That’s a fun way to run your own models on whatever accelerators you have handy. It’ll run on your CPU, sure, but man is it slow.

Nvidia now ships a GPU operator, which handles annotating nodes and managing the resource type. “All you need to do” — the most dangerous phrase in computers — is smuggle the GPUs through whatever virtualization you’re doing, and expose them to containerd properly.

But I got there! Yay.

Today I learned about the German word Vorführeffekt:

The word can be broken down into two parts, “Vorführ” taken from the verb “vorführen”, meaning to demonstrate or present, and “der Effekt”, the effect, and is loosely translatable as “when something suddenly behaves differently as soon as you try to show it to someone”.

Very useful in my chosen profession!!!

Whenever we print something, Babbage races to the printer and meows anxiously, once.

I assume he is telling us "don't worry, I've got it."

And then when the paper comes out, he paws at the paper. Once we take away the printout, he sits next to the printer until its little LCD screen goes dark.

At which point he resumes his normal life, sitting in the window, irritating his sister, trying to steal my cheese, etc.

I woke up from a nap, and Lovelace was standing in the doorway. She meeped at me, turned, and looked over her shoulder.

She clearly meant for me to follow her, so I did.

She led me through three rooms -- looking back to make sure I was behind her -- and eventually got into the office, jumped on my desk, and laid down on the laptop, exposing her belly for rubs.

Apparently she wants pets, but only on a warm laptop.

I just went down a tremendous rabbit hole, and I was suddenly back in the dorms in the summer of 1994, using my 14.4k PCMCIA modem to connect to a terminal server, telnetting to ux4.ccso.uiuc.edu, and using lynx and gopher to browse the internet.
