MutilationWave,

You might want to look up the definition of neoliberal. You can be conservative and be neoliberal, in fact it’s quite common. I’m not trying to be a dick here I just want you to understand.

MutilationWave,

I want to link here to Attorney General of Arizona Kris Mayes stating that she will not allow any prosecutions of medical personnel or individual women in the state.

This is doubly important because I have seen so much advice on Lemmy recently boiling down to don’t vote, both parties are the same, etc. And it’s been increasing every day and will probably continue to increase all the way into November. Kris Mayes only won by 280 votes. Over 3000 people in that race chose to throw away their vote on a write-in candidate.

So this is good news for people who care about body autonomy. But it was only possible by 280 votes. Anyone who wants to counter the voting doesn’t matter crowd can point to this election.

I work a job that can be taught to most people. Although you do need to be strong and be ok with a lot of travel. General dexterity and familiarity with hand tools helps immensely. I am also a college dropout. I have had very few of my trainees fail to last at least a year. I am so much, almost infinitely better at it than a new hire though.

The other part of my argument here is I coordinate constantly with people who have multiple certifications all the way up to advanced degrees. Every single one of them I’ve spoken to about it says that their work is roughly 90% learned on the job. To me this makes the certifications and degrees they earned 90% worthless, except that education got their foot in the door to actually learn the job.

We need an overhaul in the way we think about qualifications for jobs. I think college education is a wonderful thing that generally creates a more well rounded individual, and I am grateful that I was able to spend a few years doing it. But pushing people into massive debt so they have a chance to get their foot in the door for a better paycheck is fucking insane.

MutilationWave,

Reppin MDC in the background. I’d love to see this video of choad caresser here going on about it.

MutilationWave,

So your life would be better if every time you voted the other politician won? That seems crazy.

MutilationWave,

So let’s let Trump put in another supreme court justice or two. He already got three, which is why Roe was overturned. I don’t understand how you think Democrats were complicit OR had any means of opposing it. It’s the supreme court.

MutilationWave,

She didn’t get there by paying the employees of her business empire the share they deserve of the profits they generated for her. If she had, she wouldn’t be a billionaire.

That doesn’t even touch on the issues of constant private jets around the world, owning multiple homes, etc.

MutilationWave,

It’s been widely reported that the death sentence may be a plot to get her to return the money. If she does this she may have her sentence commuted on appeal.

MutilationWave,

That sounded high so I looked it up. It was 5gb! Seemed like so much at the time. Of course I’m so old I remember my first computer had a 200mb hard drive and I wondered how anyone could fill up so much space then.

MutilationWave,

Someone saying “the 1900s” probably makes me feel older than anything.

MutilationWave,

They’re all over West Virginia which is pretty much nothing but small towns.

MutilationWave,

Uhh not everyone can just drop 40 grand on an electric car.

MutilationWave,

It’s all of them though. Some might not do things like this but there’s no doubt they cover for the ones that do. That’s why we say ACAB.

There’s nothing I can think to be done but dismantle the entire organization and destroy the gangs er I mean unions. Then we can start fresh with all new people, new (and extensive) training, and a completely different culture.

Seems impossible. Anyone got an idea for a way to get there?

MutilationWave,

It should be noted that refusal of a breathalyzer in the US has consequences that depend on the state. Refusal will get you an automatic six month license suspension and $500 fine in many.

MutilationWave,

Riley shouldn’t go to court but every one of those cops certainly should.

MutilationWave,

I try not to do this but it’s “grammar.”

Which is not a grammatical error but a spelling error. Still makes me laugh.

You have a good point.

MutilationWave,

Being opposed to the science of vaccines should tell you he’s a guy who won’t listen to experts. That’s not what we want in a leader, we saw how well that went with Trump.

But even if he was the type to listen to experts, our election process in the US is “first past the post.” This makes any third party candidate a spoiler, therefore making it more likely that the candidate opposed to that third party’s issues will win.

I hate it, and wish we could do ranked choice or STAR voting to allow viable third party/independent candidates. But we don’t. He’s a science-denying spoiler and nothing more.

MutilationWave,
MutilationWave,

Atheism doesn’t offer anything. It’s a lack of belief, not a religion or anything like that.

The light has to be something internal, external, or both that makes the suffering of life worth it.
