An old techie who occasionally uses new tech. Teacher by trade. Psychology and Critical Thinking are my subjects, YMMV.

I don't give a flying fig who you have relationships with, what you do in your bedroom or what you do in your church, as long as you don't expect me or anyone else to think, do or believe as you do.

I used to say that all my cultural references are 20+ years old, but that is now out of date. All my cultural references are from the previous century.

They're talking about grade inflation at the Ivies again. And OK, fair. Everyone gets an A. But can we also talk about educator inflation? Educator inflation is a good thing! By educator inflation I mean: the typical educator at a top tier university today, is miles better at educating, than the typical educator at that same institution 50 years ago.

The field of education is not static. There are constant advances in how material is presented, and how students are supported.

IMHO your last clause is the most important. Student support for issues in and out of the classroom have increased massively since I was in college (78-82). And this goes not only for college, but also down to grade school.

Which is why conservative types want to get rid of it. Sure, if you come from a rich, "mainstream" home you don't need school lunches, counselors and resource teachers. But all of those things actually help disadvantaged kids to actually learn.

How to destroy the only known habitable planet in the universe:

Repeat ad infinitum to several generations of humans beings: "You can be rich if you're willing to work hard enough."

If it looks like the planet might by some miracle survive, add in "Move fast and break things."

Further proof that "AI" is not really a thing (as if such proof is necessary)

Mystery Science Theater 3000 is streaming on YouTube, it's a legit stream from Shout! Factory.

YT drops ads into the stream, essentially at random, in the middle of scenes. Which is stupid and makes the stream fairly unwatchable.

MST3K was originally a cable TV show and has commercial breaks built into it -- the original bumpers are still in the show. The show also features a flashing light signal that the characters in the show recognize as "commercial sign." It literally signals some of the commercial breaks.

A twelve year old could identify the commercial break points in all 10 seasons of the show in an afternoon.

Instead, YT dropped three random commercial breaks in the middle of scenes in a half hour. As much as I love MST3K, I can't watch that. Total . Doesn't help YT, the advertisers or Shout!

If Google had an actual AI that worked, you would think they would apply it here. Seems pretty simple, and surely other old TV shows are streaming on YT as well.

We have received confirmation that, in fact, Rose does love Jack.

We have also been informed there is some sort of malfunction with the ship.

So, Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) was the asshole screaming from the upper gallery.

About 40% of US COVID-19 deaths "could have been averted," an analysis of President Donald Trump's public-health policies found. The report, published by the Lancet Commission, excoriated Trump's handling of the pandemic and general approach to public health. "He expedited the spread of COVID-19 in the US," the authors wrote.

I would say that the Congressional contingent from Wisconsin right now (excluding the Dems, of course) is the most embarrassing since McCarthy. Ron Johnson isn't even a useful idiot, he is just a flat out Russian asset. My Rep (Tom Tiffany) is an empty suit (like Duffy before him) and the rest are Trumpian clowns.

This is what gerrymandering gets you.
