An old techie who occasionally uses new tech. Teacher by trade. Psychology and Critical Thinking are my subjects, YMMV.

I don't give a flying fig who you have relationships with, what you do in your bedroom or what you do in your church, as long as you don't expect me or anyone else to think, do or believe as you do.

I used to say that all my cultural references are 20+ years old, but that is now out of date. All my cultural references are from the previous century.

We’re going to find out if white women value contraception in November.

MylesRyden,
@MylesRyden@vivaldi.net avatar

@StillIRise1963

They will be more afraid of "crime" and "immigrants." Just you wait and see.

They will assume that their whiteness and money can get around the abortion and contraception laws.

Is there a way to revert back to Plasma 5.27?

I don't think is ready for prime time. When I open apps, the title bar goes above the screen space and I can't move or close the app or use the menus.

Agree with you 100%

If TFG is elected again it will be because suburban white women are more afraid of "crime" and "immigrants" more than they are afraid of losing their rights in society. They figure their money and privilege will get them around abortion and contraception bans anyway. I am speaking demographically here, individual exceptions always apply.

White men, of course, are a lost cause. They WANT a fascist dictatorship because they assume they will be in charge. The above disclaimer, of course, applies.

So far, I have to say that my experience sucks.

The theme I was using doesn't work. The icons all suck. EventCalendar, which was synced to my Google calendar is dead. Vivaldi looks like crap. The panel at the bottom of my screen is floating up probably 100 pixels, leaving useless space below it, I can't find a way to sink it to the actual bottom of the screen. I had increased all my font sizes because my eyes are bad, they have all shrunk and changing the font sizes and the interface percentage doesn't fix it.

So far, not a happy experience @kde

I just told my partner about this "no chat salon," I hadn't gotten much further than those words when she blurted out, "I bet people love that!"

She is not an introvert by any means. No chat salons might actually be a majority position.

Q4. Most cyclists drive motor vehicles at least sometimes, and some more frequently.

How has your cycling affected the way you drive? Are you slower and more careful? Do you do anything differently when encountering cyclists on the streets?

@ai6yr @ascentale @MartyCormack

I have many people very close to me that are convinced of such things as "bicycles have to be able to keep up with traffic to be on the roads." I have no idea where such things come from and even when I explain things from a cyclist's (and the actual law) point of view, they still think I am wrong.

Car-centric view is very strong.

Possibly Unpopular Opinion Alert:

This year's season was pretty boring.

Last year we had Fem vs Puck vs Shirin with Lucinda Brand and Ceylon Alvarado always close at hand. This year Puck was Mtn Biking and Shirin was injured. Fem won everything and Ceylon and Lucinda won when she wasn't there. Other than Zoe Bäckstedt not much happened.

The men's side was similar. Last year we had the Iserbyt vs Sweeck grudge match in the early part of the year, followed by the Big Three lighting up a number of races and the Rainbow Jersey being won by inches. This year, Wout was a non-factor (trying to lose weight for the Giro?), Pidcock was also a non-factor (Mtn and Road). Sweeck had a terrible year and MVDP won everything by a country mile (or kilometer).

Kinda boring if you ask me. Hope next year will be more interesting!

Perhaps other browsers have this, but reader mode on @Vivaldi has been a game changer for me.

I assigned the Super+R shortcut for it and boom, I am one key stroke away from a reformatted page with large black on white text -- centered and stripped of any stuff that is not necessary.

Perfect for my fading eyesight.

Thanks @Vivaldi !

So, it is fantastic that many people here are posting images here with extensive alt-text descriptions -- hooray for them.

However, now when I scroll through my timeline here, I often can not seen the images as the tooltip completely covers the image. Is there any way in Vivaldi to turn off those tool tips on a universal basis?

(I did post this on the forum but have had no luck with an answer so far!)

Thanks!

I don't have much hope for this, but I will see if crowd sourcing can help at all.

I am a stranded US enthusiast. I was stranded by the closure of GCN+. The only way to cobble together the same coverage previously offered by GCN+ is to sign up for 3 different streaming services. That sucks.

I would like to sign up for UK (or any Euro) .

I can sign up for the free parts of the service using a VPN. I can start the signup process, but I cannot get any form of payment to go through. It won't (apparently) take my US credit card and my PayPal won't log in during the payment process.

Has anyone accomplished signing up for Discovery+ from the US? Any ideas for me to try?

I'm going through withdrawal!

Used to be billions would search Google, link off to sites. Sites get billions of hits.

Now Google scrapes each site once. Searchers now get an AI summary/regurgitation. Google captures all of the traffic.

Sites will see dramatic drop in traffic.

So what is the use in putting your... partners?... out of business Google?

MylesRyden,
@MylesRyden@vivaldi.net avatar

@limebar

The larger question from this, as well as the link farms at the bottom of most blog posts now is: "To what end."

What good does it do to get a bazillion impressions from people who no longer give a shit?

Perhaps after scraping the ads, AI will start buying the products?

Sadly, the update has broken my system and my spirit.

After 5 years of enthusiastic usage and evangelism, I have decided with a heavy heart that I have to move on to something else.

Very obvious bugs -- KDE app windows don't resize properly, shut down options in menus not working, settings carried forward incorrectly and probably more.

Themes and widgets, some that I have depended on, completely destroyed.

Probably the worst computer day I have ever had. Like Charlie Brown, I had a lie down in a dark room to see if the sadness would lessen, but it didn't.

So long, KDE, it was a good five year run.

Possible interesting trend...

I am subbing in a high school class that, since it is the last day of school for seniors, has nothing to do. Everyone is on their phones, of course.

But the guys in the class are using their phones to interact...they are showing each other stuff and laughing, etc. The girls are intently staring at their screens thumbing alone.

Not sure what to make of this, but I don't think it can be good.
