Life is a preposterous horror.

Money speaks for money, the devil for his own
Who comes to speak for the skin and the bone?

The law locks up the man or woman
Who steals the goose off the common
But leaves the greater villain loose
Who steals the common from the goose.

Seeing the "they didn't burn witches" things going around again, and the adjacents.

Note: They burned anyone who they accused and who confessed. Which is everyone, because all you need to do to make anyone confess to any crime at all is to sleep deprive them for two days.

Note 2: And when you pay someone by the number of witches they find, that technique is an amazing way to skyrocket yourself to exciting new income levels.

A fun thing to think about is when your preferred application folds, who buys their data and gets to use it for what? Just because X company is legit (it probably isn't) doesn't mean the vultures that get to pick its corpse clean are going to be legitimate.

You're all really boosty lately. So boosts turned off for a while in my feed. It's always a different experience to see what people are writing themselves. At night, when I want more freah content, I can turn it back on. Great to have control over my feed algorithm.

I've been trying to do the same on my FB feed and it's very difficult.

PatrickoftheG,
@PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

@johnefrancis This is how I treat Boosts as well. If I have them on, my front page moves at speeds I cannot keep up with at all and it's a bit annoying at times (especially how often the boosts are repeated things).

If I have them off, I sit here bored waiting for people to write things.

There's no winning but at least I can toggle.

    Paywalled but worth a read. He points out that there are lower fertility rates in countries with higher proportions of people living in apartments. People who want to start or expand families tend to prefer multi-bedrooms and yard space.

    I agree that there is an awful shortage of 2+ bedroom rentals. Couples with kids who split up are really pauperized these days due to housing costs. Family choices are being affected in a lot of ways for some people.

    Food for thought.

    I don't know when I decided to stop listening to new music, it was a while ago. The reasoning seems to be that I have a lot of songs that I like already, why waste time sorting through bullshit that I hate for something I may not find?

    That's probably not the way to go through life.

    Augh, I hate how my body handles sleep.

    All night it's sweat sweat sweat changing pillow sides or pillows because they're too sweaty

    Then around 4-5 AM I'm suddenly way too cold and can't sleep because of that. I even have a Bedjet so I can dry sweat and adjust temp over night but it's so weird and inconsistent it's very hard to plan for

    PatrickoftheG,

    @SirTapTap Waking up soaking wet, dehydrated from thirst, and shivering because of how wet I am? That's my whole God damned summer and I hate it.

    @PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

    @SirTapTap I truly sorry that a white noise machine isn't something that works out for you. I have a problem with the bones in my left ear, which means I have super sensitivity and can hear my heartbeat all day long. Also I can hear my left eye moving around in its socket. White noise yes the shield that makes me forget all of that when I try to put my head down.

    PatrickoftheG,
    @PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

    @SirTapTap instead of the White noise could you do something like listen to a podcast? Or if you crave the silence there are those over the ear headsets that construction workers use? Maybe a solution is with something like that.

    I offer prayer without genuine faith anymore, a sad man's wishes for an afterlife of some kind, a Heaven and a God. All I have is hope that some part might be true.

    More like a wish than hope.

    I don't think it is real.

    I ask for signs, portents and even direct revelation. I listen so carefully, begging for the little inner voice to be true. It having been so wrong so often that it can only be my thoughts reflected back at me. Or lies.

    True sometimes though.

    Is this faith? This is madness.

    I am one of those people who still masks up wherever he goes, the one exception being walking around outside on less than crowded streets.

    The exception to that exception is if I see children anywhere. The mask goes right back on then. The amount of hacking, coughing and generalized audible sickness of the youth freaks me right the God damn out. Children should not be this universally sick all the time.

    A thing I find interesting about is that we want immigrants to fall in love with French as a language and want them to think that language is one of the most important things in this world. This makes sense if you are from Québec, sure.

    This falls apart fundamentally because you're enlisting people who already have a language and who value language so little they are moving across the world to take up a new one.

    They already decided standard of life is more important than language.

    I am liking the first episode of Fallout enough that I am tempted to play one of the games again. No, not those ones. A good one.

    PatrickoftheG,
    @PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

    @WanderingInDigitalWorlds I am not sure that the first two games, well they are pretty good for those who got to know them in the time they were made, are something that are friendly for newcomers.

    I hate time limits. At least the second game didn't actually have one except in one quest's case.

    I genuinely wanted to like the fourth title but I found that there wasn't any choice in the RPG stuff that I liked didn't exist. I wasn't playing a character that had options..

    PatrickoftheG,
    @PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

    @WanderingInDigitalWorlds It felt more like a shooter to me in the first person shooter sense than anything else and that's fine but it wasn't what I was looking for from a Fallout.

    One of those things that I really wanted to like since it's pretty close to being New France in New England and that wasn't able to carry me through the game unfortunately. But I wanted to like it.

    76? Live service, didn't want to even bothe so I never did.
