There were no cheese scones in M&S. it’s like Rhubarbgate all over again. I’ve got to do some more potting up of plants this afternoon, that’s something I used to really enjoy but right now the thought makes me quite literally lose the will to live. I’ll do what I can

PetraPhoenix,

@purplepadma

If you were nearby I made a batch late last night and would happily have let you have some.

I hope your plants help you more than you think they will 🫂

Grumpy this evening and not entirely sure why.

Don’t like it.

I am also grumpy, but I know why.

Hope it lifts for you soon

Also: why do my adult children insist on having their own lives? I hate it when they go back after they’ve been to stay 😂😭

Submitted an e-consult to my GP yesterday. Received an email a few minutes later saying they’d reply by 6:30 today.

They’ve got five minutes…

PetraPhoenix,
@PetraPhoenix@mendeddrum.org avatar

@DJDarren

Firstly I hope you're ok,

Secondly, I HATE eConsult!

As I have told my GP's practice, it may be more convenient for them but for patients it's absolutely dreadful!

I just cannot stand the way it is used to fob us off.

No. I shall stop now, because noone wants me to really get started on that rant

This annoying new Mastodon trend of repeating the toot as the alt text in an image has better stop soon or I will beat your arse! It's lazy and unhelpful and frankly disrespectful for people who need the bloody alt text to "see" the image.

Alt text is to describe the image. 🤬

PetraPhoenix,
@PetraPhoenix@mendeddrum.org avatar

@Tattooed_Mummy

That does sound annoying! I wasn't aware of it as I'm unable to see any alt text since swapping to the Firefox browser.
None of the apps worked for me when I joined fedi and so I just added it to my screen as a kind of web app thingy.
I got the alt text when I was still on chrome and doing that, but haven't found a way to access it since using Firefox.

Which is a shame, because I enjoy good alt text, it helps everyone!

PetraPhoenix,
@PetraPhoenix@mendeddrum.org avatar

@DJDarren

Nope, I get a series of options such as "open in background tab", "Download image" and "share link"

But no option to view alt text.
I can see whether or not there is alt text, because a little ALT symbol is in the corner of the image (tapping that brings up the options from earlier).

The only time I see the alt text is if the picture itself doesn't load.

  1. Someone tagging me in a lovely post that I apparently inspired

  2. Despite being sat upon by Big Sads, the Depression Ape I managed to get the stuff done today that I needed to do, and also a load of washing.

  3. A streamer saying they miss me when I'm not in chat.

(That I truly appreciated 1&3 has a lot to do with 2 methinks)

We give such weird advice to kids. I remember being 12, and very shy, and people would tell me to just be myself. Now 30 years later, I'm 42, and still trying to figure that out.

PetraPhoenix,
@PetraPhoenix@mendeddrum.org avatar

@RickiTarr

Adults: "Just be yourself"

Me aged 7: Happily does stuff

Adults: NOT LIKE THAT

Me:

Adults: "Be yourself the same way everyone else is"

Me aged 47: still working out who she is after a lifetime of trying to "not like that"

I woke up with Walk The Dinosaur in my head. When I mentioned this to Tom he claimed never to have heard of it, so I had to go onto Spotify to prove to us both that I hadn’t dreamed it up. How has he never heard this 80s classic?

PetraPhoenix,

@purplepadma

I remember a dance that went with it too, but I don't know if that was a playground invention or from the video.

But, how has he never heard this???

oh,

I still feel like utter shite.

Something occurred to me earlier, and it’s twisted my melon, but in a good way.

I was diagnosed with in 2019, and have been on medication since. I have a huge problem with imposter syndrome, that somehow I tricked a professional into giving me speed. It’s not as bad as it used to be, but there are still some things that eat away at me a little.

@TheBreadmonkey
Mind if I jump in?

You sound exactly like me just after I got my diagnosis at the end of 2022. I have combined ADHD - so both ADHD (hyperactive) and ADHD (inattentive)

Just having a diagnosis helped, and though I was still a little convinced that I'd just tricked the psych it also helped me reframe some big moments in my life that I thought we just my crapness.

The meds are interesting, the 1st time I took a stimulant I just could not keep my eyes open!

@DJDarren

PetraPhoenix,
@PetraPhoenix@mendeddrum.org avatar

@TheBreadmonkey
Taking the meds doesn't miraculously mean I have executive function like a NT, but does make it easier to pull myself back to what I'm doing.

I'm on short acting meds, as I found that with the others I had no control over what I focused on. Whatever I was doing when it hit my system was what I was doing for the day.

I had worries about misuse, but honestly they just put me at a different baseline and don't give me a high, much like coffee doesn't give me a buzz.
@DJDarren

PetraPhoenix,

@DJDarren

I had a few times where I got stuck doing one thing when I had deadlines for something else. I spent a day baking when I had an important study deadline imminent for example! Tasty, but not helpful!

@TheBreadmonkey

PetraPhoenix,
@PetraPhoenix@mendeddrum.org avatar

@DJDarren

And my short acting meds aren't currently affected by the shortages - which is a huge relief!

@TheBreadmonkey

PetraPhoenix,
@PetraPhoenix@mendeddrum.org avatar

@TheBreadmonkey
Yeah, there's a shortage of some ADHD meds at the moment. I don't know the details as mine aren't affected.
@DJDarren do you know more?

It's the 12th March.

9 years?

Terry Pratchett left us 9 years ago today? I'm still utterly furious that Death didn't see fit to return him.
I learnt to think for myself due to Pratchett. I learnt to value others and learn from our differences. I learnt that just because lots of people say something it doesn't make it right.

Most importantly, I learnt to be me

I never met him, but I miss reading his new words more than I can explain.

I regret to inform you that the dietary reply guys have found me.

If you need me, I’ll be in bed reading Dr Atkins Diet Revolution and fiddling with my fully automated luxury calorie counter while doing calisthenics.

PetraPhoenix,
@PetraPhoenix@mendeddrum.org avatar

@DJDarren

Oh no!!

Let me guess, they're asking if you tried 'insert diet of choice here' and suggest that it's actually easy? Fuckers.

No, hang on, they're probably telling you to move more too?

Did I cover it all?

I bet they've never had to do this, and have no concept of what it's actually like.

Long night so far.

A call from my sister just after midnight that she’d taken mum to the hospital.

Been holding bedside vigil while sister goes home and gets some sleep. Doctors running tests and whatnot. Morphine for the pain. Machines that go “bing”.

It’s about 4:30am and mum’s snoring with a plethora of tubes and wires.

Eyes are heavy. Chair is uncomfortable. The nurses showed me where I could make a cup of coffee for myself.

  1. This morning there were goldfinches in the tree out the back
  2. The daffodils in the back garden were delightfully bright in the morning fog, they immediately gave me hope for sunnier times
  3. The sun came out this afternoon and was beautiful
