Dragging this crap from home to the #office everyday kind of sucks. It would be nice if we had desk that we could call our own on which we could place belongings and leave them there. We are required to have our desks empty at the end of each day.
Yeah, considering options. While there were some tough times and layoffs over the course of 11 or 12 years, there was always at least thebappearsnce of compassion. They are becoming a bot hostile and unreasonable. I think I am likely to benlaid off in a month or so. That may be preferred so that I can get a severance package on my way out.
Things in the offices are just weird now. I've been speaking with some other employees on anonymous social networks...
The company decided to keep a cheaper building further from many of the employees and get rid of the other two. Those employees now face 3 hours of commute time each day. In a town hall they asked for consideration for the lo get commute and said it was likely to affect productivity.
Management said compromised productivity is not allowed and that "we" must live with the new office decision.
This was the child of someone in law enforcement. Despite my attempts to not give answers to questions, my positions on issues were inferred from a lot of paralingual queues.
I can't tell if the child was intentionally taught to do that, or implicitly learned from one of the parents doing that.
Here is an interesting piece about some possible impacts that AI might have on online communities.
Shown here is one that I feel has been a problem for many years:
"... everything new posted online is created by a machine or by someone looking to turn a profit."
Although I do occasionally find other voices online, big social media has been very effective in silencing too many of them. Their algorithms-tuned-for-profit and use of dark patterns has made it increasingly difficult to hear the helpful voices over the ugliness and nonsense.
And we've allowed them to improperly use Section 230 as a shield to protect them from responsibility for the harms they have knowingly created.
Generally, since there is no duty to host all voices, I don't thinknthere will be a solution to this within the constraints of 1A. Being able to be selective and even biased about removing people from one's service is generally 1A protected.
Watching this argument in this cartoon from Sanrio (Hello Kitty) where a son is arguing against his father's base view of those struggling financially. The father made his money in a bubble economy. I'm not used to this type of conflict in a cartoon with such a bright color palette.
Someone, please do the #math/#logic. I've done it, and I want to make sure this is right.
If you have 100 employees, and they come into the office three days a week on the days of their choosing, what is the absolute minimum number of desks needed to accommodate them?
I don't know what i was doing in my initial math. But insat down and scheduled 1 to 10 employees on paper and see the needed desks increasing according to the function
int DesksNeeded(int employeeCount)
{
return Math.ceiling( ((float)employeeCount)*3.0f/5.0f)
}
Well, this situation just changed. New constraint on this scenario. All employees must be present on Mondays. Employees shall not work more than 2 days in a row out of the office.
That means there must be enough desks for 100% of the employees. It also means there are only 2 possible schedules.
MTT OR MWF.
I suspect most people will not want to deal with Friday traffic.
I left the office early today so that I could get some work done. On my way home, a coworker from the opposite coast contacted me concerning some other conflicts he is having with trying to get work done in the office.
It's a sad state when being in the office prevents work from being done, and it is mandated that one be there and not compromise productivity.
There's lots of reasons. I expect some attrition. I wonder if that is a goal.
I feel especially empathetic for people that were hired in the last three years being sold the job as a "work from home" position. Its like a bait-and-switch with bad timing (after their preferred after-school programs have stopped taking on students).
My sister bought her first mac. An OS update came out and was available through the store. She did not like that she had to enter a CC to get to the point of being able to install an update. She generated a temporary CC for that purpose.
Elon Musk picked a fight with Mark Zuckerberg, got a bunch of press about standing up to him, and then backed down and pissed his pants.
Ron DeSantis picked a fight with Disney, got a bunch of press about standing up to them, and then backed down and pissed his pants.
Donald Trump picked a fight with the US Department of Justice, got a bunch of press about standing up to them, and what exactly do you think will happen next?
The past month has been an expensive month for me personally, paid for my gf's drivers licence and festival and currently my personal funds are quite low
Server bills will be paid ofc but I'm worried it will drain my last personal funds😟
Before I start selling some of my personal stuff I wanted to ask the Fedi first.. :catblush: ❤️
Perhaps. Come about the 29 August I am to not respond to any requests by them. I really feel like they should at least be skimming the documentation I'm getting them to make sure they have what they need.
Even as I make a best-effort attempt to capture vital knowledge, I've got blind spots and they don't appear to be looking.
I recall some people protesting a computer company that would not sell a computer without windows. One day, while they were protesting, the company ordered them pizza and drinks.
