I'm not saying we shouldn't worry about how China might be using TikTok to steal our data and manipulate us...

But why aren't we at least as worried about the U.S. billionaires who own the other apps stealing our data and trying to manipulate us?

@tcely @rbreich you should take your own advice. TikTok itself is based in the US, their CEO is Singaporean, and they’ve offered to host all US data in Texas under Oracle. Additionally the minority leader on the House Intelligence Committee, Jim Hines, who sees the classified info that the public can’t, called it a ‘potential threat’ and voted against banning. He believed that First Amendment right preceded the potential threat of influence of the CCP.

@flexghost she is right and this is a terrible approach. Both things can be true. Telling voters to "get over yourself" only servers to alienate them.

Sure, TikTok is terrible in many ways. But the hypocrisy of its critics, especially members of Congress, is almost beyond belief.

The problem with TikTok is the same one we have with countless other Internet products: They are relentless violators of our privacy and security.

Fix that, and you've fixed TikTok.

Democrats are just as bad as Republicans on this. And so is Big Journalism, which mostly just amplifies the lies.

This is a moral panic with a mercantile edge.

navigation language (i.e. “go past this light, then at the next one turn right”) is better than imo which uses feet for everything. Seriously who can visualize 1,000 feet while driving? But using for reviews and pictures is a serious crutch for Apple Maps.
