Total patient count now (at 1331PT) is thirteen (13). (so far it sounds like all minor, but with transport to hospital).

VeeRat,

@ai6yr I just tried searching for Moorpark train accident and I’m surprised at how many there have been in that area over the years.

Private
VeeRat,

@Tooden @actuallyautistic Mine didn’t either, until after it was removed. My doctors all told me that they would never consider removing someone’s thyroid “just” for depression & anxiety. Mine was removed due to cancer, but the changes were dramatic. Psychological quality of life isn’t good enough apparently. 😩

- impact on language and cognition

"It proposes that these cognition-based language difficulties should be included in the class of cognitive-communication disorders. These disorders are typically assessed and treated by speech-language pathologists who manage communication difficulties in clients with traumatic brain injury, right-hemisphere damage, and neurodegeneration."

VeeRat,

@Tatiana_Trifan "In a meta-analysis of 19 studies involving 11,324 patients with post COVID-19 syndrome, Premraj et al. (2022) reported brain fog in 32% of patients. Additional cognitive symptoms in these patients included memory issues (27%) and attention disorder (22%). Davis et al. (2021) reported cognitive dysfunction in 88% of 3,762 participants with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 with illness lasting over 28 days. "

@Tatiana_Trifan @novid "The most commonly reported symptom was word-finding difficulty (93.1%)."

Think of how this translates to writing programming code. Things are going to really start to fall apart.

VeeRat,

@salixdubois @Tatiana_Trifan @novid That's good. It's not the experience that I'm seeing for everyone affected.

A surge in child strep throat cases is baffling N.J. doctors

I mean, it's so baffling. What could it be?

VeeRat,

@augieray Why, it’s lockdowns of course! “People might be returning to normal activity after shedding masks and isolating due to the pandemic, some experts say.” 🙄

The FDA’s committee voted to update the vaccines for this Fall/Winter.

They recommended an XBB monovalent.

Pfizer, Moderna, and yes Novavax!

I hate that it takes so much time to prove when something isn't "all in our heads".

"Was anyone else seeing what I was seeing? The researchers had not only shown that Long Covid might be preventable simply by taking a low-cost drug. They’d provided the best objective scientific proof that Long Covid measurably exists that I’d ever seen, or have seen since."

@jens I relate to so much of this. Over here working my butt off to carefully express myself, and then they skim what I write and misinterpret the third of it they bothered to read. Glad you could rant here! It helps me feel less alone.

    VeeRat,

    @actuallyautistic @jens Thank you! I have followed.

Like, is it not weird that most people are acting like covid isn't a thing anymore?

    VeeRat,

@BlackAzizAnansi @bryanruby @TJ @pixplz @OldAndCranky Ugh, thank you for continuing to try to explain. “How long will you continue to protect your chronically ill spouse” is quite the doozy.

“Why do you keep masking?” Well, because we’re paying attention. You can tell them the odds and how terrible long covid is, but they won’t hear it.

    VeeRat, to random

At my work now, people are normalizing symptoms of “brain fog”. No one even jokes about “getting older” any more. It’s just passively accepted when people forget how to do their jobs, or can’t recall words. Or when someone arrived late to a meeting that they were desperate to attend for…some reason…hold on, if they can look at the agenda maybe they will remember why… 😩

It seems to me that so many people have lost very significant relationships as a result of how “safe” people have felt the need to be (or not) with regard to the pandemic

Irreconcilable safety protocols have torn so many relationships apart and I feel like there is so much unresolved grief, anger, and sorrow.

    VeeRat,

@shayz0rz I went to see my family once for an emergency situation. Thankfully it all went well. They thought that this meant things were back to 2019 and tried to plan a summer vacation with me. I had to shut it down.

It's apparently too much to ask for protections even for the person living with me who is in hospice, and somehow caring for others is just me being selfish to them ??

    @shrinkthinks

    VeeRat, to random

The elderly relative living in my home is declining and may need to go to a facility soon. The social worker who is coordinating care told us not to worry, “we don’t worry about any more, we don’t even need to mask any more at the facility!” 😩

We have kept our relative safe for so long in our home. It feels like we’re failing them now, when it should feel like we’re getting them better care.

In a society that faults individuals for getting sick as a type of moral failing, we can't admit that kids have been a major spreader of :

"the states that had mitigation protections in place within schools for the longest have the lowest percentages of people reporting Long COVID symptoms lasting more than 3 months"

“When you start to look at this data across time, it really is scary and insidious how many deaths are still happening. I think when people see it tallied that way, they begin to really appreciate how this is not over in the way that we hear a lot of our elected leaders, politicians, and other talking heads discussing it.”

  • VeeRat,

@novid @nycCatHerder I think it’s easy to blame ourselves, especially when most people are eager to say that we “should” be able to make ourselves better. But as I have learned about myself, if I am interested in changing and still can’t, then there is an underlying cause to be explored.

For all the fear and hatred supporters of the U.S. Dems have for the G.O.P., they don't seem too fussed that BOTH the Dems and the Republicans are happily lying that the pandemic is over.

    VeeRat,

@Geoffberner @freemo The problem with this line of thinking is that heart disease isn’t contagious. I can go to public places like my doctor’s office and sit in the waiting room next to someone who has heart disease with no worries. I can no longer go anywhere, including necessary medical appointments, without worrying about catching something that is the third leading cause of death. And continues to mutate. Not to mention no cure for which now affects millions.

    VeeRat,

@freemo @Geoffberner From a political point of view, there is a lot that could be done. They could be regulating cleaner air in public buildings, continuing to mandate masks in medical and pharmacy settings, making sure money goes to accelerated research on vaccines and treatments for long covid, making sure tracking data stays online and is reported. They’re not doing this, instead even the Dems in power do nothing and say it’s over.

    VeeRat,

@novid @juliewebgirl I’ll take what I can get at this point. So much covid monitoring is being shut down, I’m just glad to hear that there’s anything new in the works.

    VeeRat,

@juliewebgirl @jik @novid You need to think real hard about how privileged you are to decide not to vote, and to prefer Trump as president. Covid is an important topic but electing GOP is literally a death sentence to many other marginalized people for other reasons.

    VeeRat,

@juliewebgirl @jik @novid Frankly, not if you're not willing to put in the work to consider how not voting is hurting those you claim to want to protect. You talk about wanting an easier way to identify racists, but it also sounds like you haven't been paying attention if you didn't see this going on for a very long time. I'm going to bow out and I would advise you to do the same and to spend some time considering how your Dem vote would actually help those you claim to want to protect.
