I am new here and a little overwhelmed. I tried adding lemmy.blahaj.zone to lemmur (an app for lemmy) and it didn't work. Is this instance only available through a browser? Or am I dumb?
Lemmur isn't actively maintained anymore. You can try Jerboa instead. Of note though, for those of you that tried it after reading the other replies, you probably tried to login right as our server ran out of storage space. So, if you tried Jerboa and it didn't work, make sure to try it again now
Its hard to justify the cost mostly. It's also mildly amusing watching people stumble a bit if I have to show my ID for something. But getting called my deadname at the bank is starting to get tiresome 🙃
I was wondering about 2 things, if this instance for example can cut off federation with another if it deems problematic and why are downvotes disabled?
Yes, we can cut off federation with other instances. We have already done so with a small number of bigoted instances. https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/instances. You can also find the link at the bottom of each, labelled "Instances"
And downvotes are disabled simply because I don't like them, and up until a week ago, I was pretty much the only active user on this instance :)
If people really want them back, I'm not completely against enabling them
I have no desire to hide myself or my identity. It would make the whole experience to much of a headache to use. I've been openly using my real name on the internet now for nearly 30 years, and whilst I can't rule out the possibility of it biting me one day, it's seems like a worthwhile roll of the dice to me.
It's so good to be able to say that. I only cracked my egg like 6ish months ago. Still have a long way to go, but it's so nice - it feels like things just make more sense now 😊
Let's say I joined through an English-only instance but want to start a community in German, which would ideally be over on feddit. Is that possible, or do I need to create a local login over there and then add my off-site account as moderator?
do I need to create a local login over there and then add my off-site account as moderator?
That's pretty much the only way. Which is a good thing, otherwise, everyone would make their communities on lemmy.ml, and we'd have centralisation entrenched in to the whole thing
With gaming often bringing me into a really depressive headspace sometimes with how the markets are developing, whats a game you can always go to and just be lost in, or just be happy with?...
I didn't really have a favourite sub. My reddit activity was mostly in trans spaces, but I've got that covered here on the fediverse, because I admin a trans Hajkey/Calckey instance.
So instead, I find myself using threadiverse communities that I wasn't really active in on reddit
Shadowrun has been an important part of my life since first edition. I even got published at one point! So, I have a Shadowrun tattoo to commemorate the role it has played in my life!...
Yep! I had to change from "new comment" to "new" as well, because otherwise the constant comments drowned out the new content. Wasn't a problem when things were quieter :)
Blahaj zone (the Calckey instance) has been running for around 6 months now. We've had a slow but constant growth of new members, with a big spike when Calckey drew a lot of attention. And as a result, even though we're not a huge instance, we are one of the larger Calckey derived instances around.
lemmy.blahaj.zone on the other hand has seen crazy growth! In the last week, our lemmy instance has gone from almost no members, to nearly as many users as our Calckey instance. The mind blowing part though, is that the lemmy instance isn't even close to being one of the largest lemmy instances. We don't even appear on the first page of Fediverse Observer! And the sheer number of lemmy instances online now is huge compared to where it was a couple of weeks ago.
And that's before we even talk about kbin and the threadiverse as a whole, of which Lemmy is only a part
I can honestly say that this whole thing has shifted my view of just what the future of the fediverse might be. I assumed it would always be microblogging centric, but now, I question that...
The way Lemmy works right now is you search a community in your instance for it to then get shown, so you need to first discover that community from elsewhere. With that in mind, what are some growing communities that you discovered that could get some more love?

Let people change one out periodically as the game unfolds, with appropriate in game exploration, so that instead of being a limited resource, or a frozen moment of history, they always reflect the things that are important to that character in the moment
Im joining in on the reddit ditching thing, and was kinda worried at first that i wouldnt be able to like use it the way i did reddit as it feels like a whole new place, but after engaging with posts and people and actually being a part of lemmy rather than being lurk mode all the time i was pleasantly surprised with how easy it...

You'll know if it's not done right because you'll see a post that says it has 5 replies or something, but then when you open it, you can't see (m)any replies
I'll also make another reply to this without using a language tag. If you can see that, your settings are correct

I can't add this instance to lemmur

Anyone else just... never go through the legal name change process? Its been like 7 years since I came out and I still haven't bothered with it.

Hi, my name is Catherine, and I'm a girl!!

This is an "only moderators can post" community for the time being
Just an FYI!
Create a community on another server?

Reddit refugees, has your favorite sub migrated already?
I, being someone who works with computers, have had some luck with most of my favorite subs being here already....
