Our Email Self-Defense guide teaches you how to defend yourself and others by using encryption. Check out the updated version, get your GnuPG set up, and share with absolutely everyone you know with : https://u.fsf.org/3f5

autumn64,

@fsf A month ago I followed your Self-Defense guide to set up my GPG, and now I can't live without signing my e-mails and git commits!

This fall's theme is "Free software, free society, free education!" As part of that theme, we'd love to hear your stories about software freedom and education -- what opportunities have you seized, what challenges have you faced? Please let us know in a reply or in a post with the hashtag.

autumn64,

@fsf As for me, the biggest challenge was definitely to find tools that worked well with my university needs, as I do a lot of colaborative job and my uni uses primarily nonfree software for basically everything, but I figured out and found the way to do pretty well with GNU/Linux, ONLYOFFICE, GNU Octave, Vim and LibreJS!

autumn64,

@eliasr Right, I forgot to mention LaTeX!

autumn64,

@nicce @fsf I did hear about it, seems quite interesting!

I'm developing in Unity on Ubuntu. I need to make a video screencast of my game in play (including my voiceover). What's the easiest way to do this?

autumn64,

@peterdrake I use OBS and it works out of the box. You could also try simplescreenrecorder but iirc it does not work on Wayland.

Have y'all ever tried ? I started using it when youtube stopped showing video recommendations to those who keep their watch history disabled (which is my case) and ngl it's a very nice YouTube frontend that also works with , for my phone I use and

autumn64,

@MarekKnapek That's something that people love to ignore even if it's important as heck. It means nothing if someone can code in +10 languages, or if someone can type 100 lines of code in 20 seconds, and how skilled a beginner or an experienced programmer is means nothing if they do not know how to debug. I quit print-debugging almost a year ago and decided to learn to debug properly, and since then I no longer spend days trying to find any bug at all, and in general I'm a better developer.

What are some good instances that have no storage limit, or at least a large one? I currently post my selfies at @autumn_64 since I quit Instagram, but I'm still interested in using Pixelfed. I did create an account weeks ago (idr the instance) but the storage limit was like 2GB, and I usually post a lot of pictures, so I'd appreciate a lot if someone could give me recommendations of nice instances that don't have such small limit.

autumn64,

@adamsdesk @autumn_64 In your account settings, in the right at the bottom you see your storage and how much you've used of it.

autumn64,

@adamsdesk @autumn_64 I think it's not possible to see the limit without an account :(((

autumn64,

@adamsdesk @autumn_64 Same, it should be like PeerTube in that aspect.

Gaming on Linux is not only possible, it's real.
In this thread I'll send screenshots where I'll be showing to y'all some of the games I frequently play in my Arch Linux installation.
Obviously the performance depends entirely on my hardware specifications and it's not quite tied to my distribution. Also the steps to install these games are really easy since all of them (except Minecraft) are available on Steam.

Half Life natively running on Arch Linux.
