"The U.S. Department of Justice-including the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, an appointed U.S. special counsel and the solicitor general, all of whom were involved in different ways in the criminal prosecutions underlying these cases and are opposing Mr. Trump’s constitutional and statutory claims — can petition the other seven justices to require Justices Alito and Thomas to recuse themselves not as a matter of grace but as a matter of law."

@seachanger What good is an election if the process gets broken by an insurrection, failure to accept the results and a DOJ that is too weak and corrupt to enforce the rule of law? Even nearly 4 years later!
That spells a broken democratic process.

⚠️ Nissan is urging the owners of about 84,000 older vehicles to stop driving them because their Takata air bag inflators have an increased risk of exploding in a crash and hurling dangerous metal fragments. https://apnews.com/article/b36f57757c627a904757e9aa53e13486

@GottaLaff Perhaps corporate was waiting for most of those vehicles to be scrapped, minimizing the number of recall actions? As it is, many such recall notices get ignored by owners who get frustrated when contacting dealers only to be told “we don’t have the parts yet to fix that recall”

Republicans can no longer lie about the US economy bc it's going gangbusters & Americans are feeling it:

"The US is growing above trend .. wages are growing faster than the rest of the inflation basket, so real disposable income is rising .. alongside this is a MASSIVE wealth effect from the stock market & the housing market .. &, all of this comes on top of healthy HH balance sheets. .. US consumption is more durable than the bears believe."
-Goldman Sachs

bouriquet,
@bouriquet@mastodon.social avatar

@KimPerales Lest we get too excited about the numbers, remember that the average worker doesn’t see it this way. They see these incremental wage increases as something that helps them to get a little more above drowning in debt but doesn’t get them out of the inflationary pain they have struggled with for years. They have lost ground in quality of life, affording housing. Wealth should not be measured by the stock market, where growth is based on inflation of stock value.

TIL learned that the typewriter industry operated more than once as a giant, monopolistic trust and that is how QWERTY became our standard. I admire the dogged scholarship of Koichi Yasuoka on the topic. https://yasuoka.blogspot.com/

@CelloMomOnCars How many more will break off, with apparently no one in the media noticing or reporting?
Perhaps this would get more public awareness as an alternative to sports betting, the odds in which section of the ice shelf and when it would break off could be subject to betting.
At least then the public would realize that they’re betting on their future by not doing anything about climate change.

Alito continues his anti-judicial white power reign of terror and completely gets the law wrong. Alito is a grave danger to the nation and the rule of law.

So patently unconstitutional that they should trigger immediate arrests of for judicial insurrection.

The very notion that political parties have any control over elections or districting is what is actually unconstitutional.

This leapt out to me. The Supreme Court has previously said that even if partisan gerrymandering violates the Constitution, federal courts can't stop it.

Today, the Supreme Court declared that partisan gerrymandering does not violate the Constitution. That is very different!

bouriquet,
@bouriquet@mastodon.social avatar

@skykiss Judicial insurrection. But doesn’t it go beyond that? Conspiracy to seize control of the government of the United States by members of the judicial, legislative and executive branches via organized activities and assisted by members of the Federalist Society? Put it all together and it’s organized crime: RICO acts per 18 U.S.C. §§ 1961-68.
But who is trusted enough to prosecute? Or serve as a judge?

I repeat:
The Court is CORRUPTED

Guess who wrote the majority opinion? Yup, Alito.

"Supreme Court rules for GOP in South Carolina redistricting case

Civil rights groups argued that state Republicans unlawfully redrew GOP Rep. Nancy Mace’s district when they removed thousands of Black voters.

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that Republicans in South Carolina did not unlawfully consider race when they drew a congressional district in a way that removed thousands of Black voters, making it harder for civil rights plaintiffs to bring racial gerrymandering claims.

The court, divided 6-3 on ideological lines with conservatives in the majority, said civil rights group had not done enough to show that legislators were focused on race in drawing the Charleston-area district currently represented by Rep. Nancy Mace, a Republican."

@Waitnwallflower All decisions made by SCOTUS since the January 6th insurrection need to be nullified. The court is obviously biased and not impartial.
If we could ever appoint an impartial board of investigators, the financial activities and social contacts of all SCOTUS members need to be thoroughly examined since 2016.
Just consider it similar to an investigation for a security clearance, like nearly all government employees consent to. What do you have to hide?
