It might interest you to know, this is pretty much how e-wallets are set up in other regions, and in Asia and parts of Europe (that I'm aware of), the decentralized part of it is using QR codes (in my case, I do have a few e-wallets and when I send and receive money the qr code (which embeds the bank details) is the same across them all). Southeast Asian economies are allowing users to just transfer to each other's banks in their own currency even. To get that far, we had the foundation of instant electronic bank transfer.

There are many other places in Asia (like Malaysia and Indonesia) to get better traditional street foods, but what I miss most about Singapore is literally this: that one can spend $2 or $200 on a meal and there’s huge variety at every price range.

Not in this video: many of the best restauranteurs in China & HK have moved to Singapore, so the variety is even larger now. On top of things we already have, like regional Japanese & French.

Fwiw this is reminding one time I was talking to an expat (indian) colleague about their visits around the region and I said, oh yeah Singapore's whole thing is about them being a "garden city" and his look of utter befuddlement (because he lives in KL) is very 😄 to me

Lol every so often on metafilter, there'll be an ask about where to go in sea esp if don't want anywhere too challenging re: local language, and no matter what, even if I'd sometimes pipe up and suggest Malaysia, it's always Singapore for the food and the English that gets most attention. Never mind la, less crowded here also 🫡

Saw @cendawanita saying on monyet.cc how generational cohorts like millennials, boomers, and Gen Z are an American marketing invention. In the Chinese-speaking world, we prefer to follow the "80s generation," "90s generation," and "00s generation" categorization instead. Neither of these categorizations seem to fit well within a Malaysian context, so what should we be using instead? How about "Pre-Mahathir Generation," "Mahathir Generation," and "Post-Mahathir Generation"?

Crowned as “breakfast of the gods” by the late Anthony Bourdain, this Sarawak’s laksa, I agree that it has rich taste profile packed with umami, but I must say I’ve tasted better breakfast 😋

Alas, taste is very subjective matter, what works for you not necessarily behaving the same with others. At the meantime, lets enjoy the diversity & sample each other’s culture!
