Why would the nationalisation of Thames Water end up putting its debt on the public books? If a company goes bust, and the govt buys the remains, surely the investors simply lose their investment and the debt falls to zero?

They want water companies to operate as profit makers, so they should accept when they go bust too.

@andydavies @localzuk surely that is the risk the lender takes?

I'd really like to understand the rationale for socialising the losses of lenders here.

Overheard from a passer-by just now:

“There’s one in Dornoch. There was one in Tain, but it got vandalised.”

You can now join me in wondering what they were talking about.

If you see a cuddly toy bear that’s been hurt, please tell a member of station staff or text the British Transport Police.

See it. Say it. Sore ted.

“Among the ideas that advisers have presented to is a cut to the federal payroll tax, said one of those people, a move that could 👉🏼lower the flow of money into the Social Security and Medicare trust funds and open Trump to criticism from Democrats that he is torpedoing the safety net for elderly Americans.👈🏼 Trump has signaled he is open to the idea.”

Press:

Prosecutor: Michael Cohen accepted responsibility. So we should be allowed to bring that out on direct and that he lied on Defendant's behest. That changed, when Michael Cohen decided to accept responsibility. So evidence about the plea is essential

@sarajw yup. Its explained so much about my life though.

No I can't picture what this room would be like if we painted one wall blue and another grey. Until I have the colours in front of me they are just words.

That's not to say I don't like colours. Once the colour is in front of me I'll tell you if I like it. And I think I'm consistent on this, although it would be interesting to test that.

I’ve been re-reading all my history books about the Nazis. One thing that strikes me is how hard it was to fight back against Nazism from inside. The normative culture is so strong and everybody is just going along. Ordinary folks, with denouncing their neighbours to the Gestapo. The Gestapo was tiny only 32k. It was the ordinary people that were informing on their neighbours. Ordinary people enabled Nazism.

@timbray @bookstardust @kcarruthers there are still plenty of Brits who think she was wonderful.

Not me and no I didn't vote for her
