I find it hilarious and disturbing one chap has blocked most of Scandinavia, Salesforce, Fosstodon, Mastodon.social, the Gentoo Linux community. 1344 instances.

And therefore stopped Mastodon federating.

And nobody is thinking this is fucking madness

Again - Mastodon is killing itself

It's very very Nazi

The UK accelerates toward police-state status. Latest is government push to acquire "secret veto" over security updates. Insane, but the UK govt is increasingly bonkers. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/01/apple-accuses-uk-of-power-grab-enabling-secret-veto-over-security-updates/

cloudguy,

@dangillmor see my post about this earlier

New: X has now for two days blocked all searches for Taylor Swift, one of the world's biggest superstars, during a very newsy weekend for her, because it couldn't stop AI-generated sex images of her and had no other ideas. A blunt and desperate measure to accomplish a basic content-moderation task - made tougher since X, under Elon Musk's leadership, fired 80% of its workers and most of its "trust and safety" team

cloudguy,

@drewharwell that's nothing compared to a few of the morons manning the Mastodon block lists

So I found out today that a podcast that folk are talking about, an adult podcast, is actually presented and produced by someone I worked with and socialised with for YEARS pre moving to Wiltshire.

Hilarious

Hiding in plain sight all along

Wanted: If anyone in the UK is hoarding or has an old Epson 24 pin dot matrix printer (parallel port) in their garage, loft, in a cupboard forgotten about and wants to sell me it can you ping me?

It's for a project I am writing code for.

There is nothing locally that's available in my neck of the woods that I can find.

Share away - more eyes on this the better

I realize I'm becoming a technology therapist for LLM's, trying to convince them to spit out an answer and talk about stuff. No wonder programs hate this stuff, you have to actually be patient and poke away patiently at these opaque boxes, and then figure out ways to validate the output.

    cloudguy,

@kurtseifried am really impressed with Aria the engine built into Operas browser

Thankfully the press can thank Larry Tesler and Tim Mott for inventing Cut and Paste at Xerox Labs in late 1974.

Because without them they'd be having to type Þórkötlustaðahverfi a lot this week while the Icelandic volcano threatens to explode.

Share this post and if you can, post a comment because, genuinely I woke up this morning to a staggering number of shares and favourites.

The comments PROVE Mastodon is the place where common decency is being restored. I feel hopeful for the future.

What lovely people you all are.
