logging into things has become such a nightmare, why oh why did we popularize the notion that you need 2 computers to login to something? this is the extent that the capitalist mind worm has burrowed deep enough into programmers subconscious
@liaizon I don’t like it either but expecting/teaching people to use proper passwords sadly also didn’t work out... SMS and EMail 2FA doesn’t cut it either.
@liaizon I’m currently trying it out, too. A lot of their messaging falls into this way familiar/bordering on creepy vibe butttt besides that I like a lot of features. Shortcuts make sense. Workspaces are thought out. Also like the tab management
I have not read a single take about "the bridge" that I think was well thought out. I guess that means I should probably post a take but maybe I will wait till its not a hot button issue.
I don’t particularly like road cycling, which seems even more popular here but there also is a sprawling network of gravel path and field ways which is exactly what I wanted!
I presented on this like 15 years ago when I was just getting started at Uni. I honestly thought these concepts would take much longer to gain adoption. Rust wasn’t even a thing yet either.
Who reviews the code reviews? Really, some code reviews are bad and others are good. Can't just dump the senior dev into the battlefield and let them review however they want. Gotta grade those reviews somehow.
@staltz this! Some dimension I’d wager should be documented when giving a review: familiarity with the change and its intention, scope (I have (not) considered how this plugs into the other thing(s)) and attention span/level of distraction.
I just wanted to help a friend degooglify their shared rehearsal room calendar, but it ended up with me getting nerd-sniped into building a smol, nice calendar for small collectives/friend circles. (/▽\) It's a single php file you can drop in any webhost, then it walks you through first time setup and then it's up and running. It persists all data to an adjacent php file, so you can simply backup/transfer the calendar by moving the files between computers. We'll do a test-run with the shared rehearsal room, then I'll release it (copyleft). It's also mobile-friendly, has dark/light mode, only 5 lines of (optional) javascript :D, and I'm doing my best to get accessibility right from the get-go. I'm kinda excited, and highly amused what an easy nerd-sniping target I am. Yay! :D
found a random android phone sitting on a shelf in this house I have been staying at and installed some apps on it to test it out. The download link on the front page of @fdroidorg is broken and 404ing so someone might want to fix that lol
TIL #erlang / otp comes with wxWidgets bindings. From what i've seen so far it actually fills in a lot of the annoying gaps that i've seen in other languages. Like the event system connects very well to the established actor model..!
Has been quite a while since i was excited to build a GUI... I usually took it as necessary evil and felt like fighting windmills with toothpicks (web tech).
“What You Need to Be Warm” by @neilhimself is out this week. Very proud of my dear wife Yuliya (sadly not on fedi) for contributing one of the spreads alongside 12 other wonderful illustrators. Part of every sale goes towards the UNHCR!
@kaia@th something something "integrated experience" 🙃 i honestly wouldn't wonder if these screens yoink their info through the same system as that hosts the payment terminal near the driver.
