Created a template for GTK4+libadwaita apps in Vala and Blueprint. I'm trying to learn Vala and GTK, then I found the XML syntax to be absolutely horrible and made this. @nixCraft Meanwhile me with a 11 year old 500 gigs hard drive still rocking with no issues and full speed (it's a server hard drive and I only use it for storage, so it's not always turned on, but whatever)
Finally getting around to watching The Batman. As everyone has said, the cinematography and color grading is incredible - but the audio (at least on the home 4K BluRay) is abysmal! I cannot stand movies that have every dialog whisper quiet and then the action loud AF.
That’s a nightmare to watch, especially with a sleeping kid, and I have to spend the whole movie holding the remote to keep tweaking volume
@EposVox I saw it on the movie theater and the audio quality felt amazing there, then I rewatched it at home and it's just as you said. Maybe the movie was only mixed for this kind of environment.
I think people who are worried about Meta coming into Fedi and stealing all your data are seriously out of touch or just don't understand how the Fediverse works.
So, I'll spell it out.
Your data on Mastodon or wherever is public by default. Anyone, Meta, Google, Me, ANYONE can come in and take that data. That is the definition of public.
The only way that's different is if you've locked down your account. Which is something you have to do on your own.
@thelinuxcast I don't think that's why we are so concerned, at least with me that's not the case. What I'm actually concerned about is the amount of garbage that will flow into the fediverse and also the insane traffic that all the instances will have. But it looks like (as far as I've seen) Meta won't federate and will only have a "Import from Mastodon" functionality.

I have a lot of concerns about Meta coming soon to the Fediverse.
I fear what this means for the exchange of information that will inevitably happen between us and them.
What it means legally,
what it means technically,
but mostly what it means ethically.
I also fear for the culture we have developed here.
I have deleted my Facebook account 5 years ago and never regretted it. I do not have any other accounts with Meta. For many reasons, I intend to stay away from this unethical corporation as much as I can.
I do not know what my instance intends to do about this, but personally I will block entirely any instance(s) controlled by Meta. I might also lock my account if necessary. This isn't about the people on there, this is very much about the practices of the corporation that controls it.
I sincerely hope their presence will not break the Fediverse :geodesic:

@Em0nM4stodon I saw someone saying that Metal won't federate to the whole Fediverse. It will only have some sort of "Import from Mastodon" functionality. Something similar to Truth Social being basically a defederated Mastodon instance.
Meta (owner of Facebook, Instagram & WhatsApp) is joining the fediverse very soon and we have to seriously prepare. This isn't a theoretical scenario anymore.
@asahi95 With GTK4 + libadwaita on GNOME and Kirigami on KDE, that app ecosystem is growing like crazy everyday. But yeah, I really want to try out GNOME on some phone, but 1. I don't have any money to buy a new phone and 2. there isn't really a way for me to get that money rn. So I'm stuck with this Samsung A03 Core crap and disposable phone for now.

I don’t understand the drama around this. Not like it’s removing other instances, or the ability to switch instances afterwards. It just gives an easier way in for people who don’t understand the instances concept.
It’s a good thing. Anything that helps onboarding is a good thing, and no, it doesn’t mean the developer has gone evil or wants to centralize things. 🙄🙄
