Between Trump's comments last night (that they had plenty of votes but needed people watching the vote counters, and that he would betray NATO) and the clarity of the purge in the House, it seems increasingly likely Trump plans on winning in the House in Jan2025.

datn,
@datn@xoxo.zone avatar

@GottaLaff this is why it was foolish for people to rejoice at the chaos in the House. it all served the fascists.

What is a small indie type movie, that you think never really quite got its due?

My Choice: Sanctuary (2022)
There's a kind of movie I love that is basically black box theater, a room, a few actors, very little in the way of effects, all the weight of the movie is on the acting, directing, and writing, and this movie delivers that. I guess you would call it a sexual thriller, but it's about perception, power dynamics, and intentions. It keeps you guessing until the end, and even then...it's on Hulu if you have a subscription.

@RickiTarr Frank (2014). just happens to be one of my favorite films. I think generally the American market doesn't fully grasp the deep, casual brilliance of Lenny Abrahamson. I can't praise this film properly.

    I got my for XBB.1.5 yesterday, and though many people sadly already know this, the medical establishment here in Germany has decided to make it difficult to get a vaccine.

    I was turned down flat at one place earlier this week, and yesterday they sweated me hard. "so you had a stroke... but do you have any lingering symptoms? any actual ongoing health concerns?" omg fuck off give me the shot

    What is a movie that has meant something different to you when you've watched it in different phases of your life? Details appreciated!

    datn,

    @RickiTarr My Neighbor Totoro. I first saw it at a nerd gathering in 1989. the "mom and dad" of my nerd family were early fans of "Japanimation"; they had a bootlegged tape from Japan and a stack of fan subtitles from a BBS which "dad" enthusiastically read aloud. it was a wondrous, never-before-seen, transforming perspective into a world of intense beauty.

    rediscovered years later, it's my favorite film. it's a part of me. it shaped me and showed me an aesthetic I would and will always prize.

    datn,
    @datn@xoxo.zone avatar

    @RickiTarr it sure is. I can't even begin to watch the English dubs, because I remember hearing the original Japanese voice actors ("dad" would toss in the translations mostly after the characters spoke) and being amazed at how much I could understand and feel just from their tone and delivery. when Satsuki's mom brushes her hair to calm her down, Sumi Shimamoto's soothing voice just laid me out.

    I don't mind waiting in line if the thing I'm waiting for is worth it. what bugs me about waiting in line is the people around me, usually male, loudly and constantly performing impatience. stamping about, grunting, walking to the front of the line, muttering "unbelievable".

    drives me insane.

    I wonder how y'all feel about AI voices.

    I just finished an episode in which I read a listener's emailed question before answering it.

    I just read it myself, but it occurred to me it could be more fun and add some audio variety if I used an AI voice to read it instead of my own.

    If I had prefaced it with something like, "And here's Jennifer's question, dramatized with an AI voice for your listening pleasure," how would you feel about that?

    datn,
    @datn@xoxo.zone avatar

    @grammargirl for my part I'm good with another reader but anti-"AI".

    I think that for me the pinnacle of how bad offices could get was when companies were willing to pay $5,000 usd to $10,000 for "privacy / phone call / two person conference" pods rather than admit open floor plan was an absolute ergonomic failure.

    datn,

    i have reached the same saturation level with Star Wars and Star Trek content as i did with Marvel content.

    much like a German regarding their sixth bowl of pumpkin soup, i am saying, "despite how much and how long i've liked this in the past, i don't want even one more drop of this right now, nor possibly ever again. do i even still like this?"
