Question: in where you can set your character's looks, do you try to make them as much alike to you as possible or do you play out your phantasies?

datn,
@datn@xoxo.zone avatar

@jynersolives "fantasy me" these days, but before I got old and swollen I always did "real me"

I missed the Assange Talk at by an absolute hair -- I made it into the hall, but standing was so crowded I decided to watch from outside, only to find that it was not being streamed or recorded. sigh

One of the advantages of being on Mastodon is that I get a lot of practice reading continental European languages.

I'm starting to almost get the hang of Dutch.

(Almost.)

datn,
@datn@xoxo.zone avatar

@tess apropos of little, I have long said that Dutch is German spoken by someone with a profound hangover.

I remember the Bush II presidency. Both of them. Nobody...nobody seems to recall the tension back then because it's been ratcheted up so many levels since, but Bush was not well liked.

datn,

@Adam_Cadmon1 don't worry, some of us remember. you know, he was a war criminal so, like, it stuck with us.

@Adam_Cadmon1 @passenger every time Michelle Obama chucks him on the shoulder and says, "great painting, W.," I remember that Guantanamo never closed

Show me the most 80's thing you can think of!

datn,
@datn@xoxo.zone avatar

@RickiTarr there are two Eighties, just as with every decade: low Eighties (1979-1984) and high Eighties (1985-1989).

Tiffany Darwish (high Eighties)

datn,
@datn@xoxo.zone avatar

@RickiTarr 1979 is special and has been curated into the low Eighties because nothing that happened in the Eighties could have happened without 1979.

datn,
@datn@xoxo.zone avatar

@RickiTarr also the high Seventies were already full

    I, admittedly, curse way too much, but I just adore a faux curse. When I was a kid, one of my Mom's friends was a very proper Southern lady. Instead of saying "They think their shit don't stink" she would say, "Some people think they poo poo vanilla ice cream".

    What is your favorite faux curse?

    Let's talk about ATTRACTION! Talk about anything you want on the topic, but here's some things I'm wondering about:

    Do you think we have any control over who we are attracted to?

    Have you ever been attracted to someone, and knew it was bad when you went in?

    If so, how did you get out of it?

    Do you think attraction is instant or something that can grow?

    What do you think attraction is a product of?

    datn,
    @datn@xoxo.zone avatar

    @RickiTarr I think we can act to quell attraction if we try really hard and do so in time. I was attracted to someone really bad for me, and it took me forever to stop seeing her. I swear part of it was the evil concoction of essential oils she wore, but of course mainly it was just unhealthy impulses on my part. I finally drew a boundary and walked away, but I'd be a liar if I said I never... well... you know.

    now come the frenzied analyses of Kissinger's career that, if they had come 30 years ago, would really have helped most folks continue to ignore his war crimes, which is what they want to do and therefore what they would and will do no matter how much info you throw at them

    @RickiTarr M. Emmet Walsh being named J. Emmet Walsh. i bet a friend $10 that i was right about it at a time when i really didn't have $10 to blow and really could have used the money, that's how confident i was about it.

    What is a word that you had read, but after hearing it spoken aloud, you realized you were pronouncing completely wrong in your head?

    Mine is pretty Embarrassing, and is just one of many!

    MISLED! I'm not even sure how to type this out for it to make sense, but it was something like:

    Myz-ulled

    datn,
    @datn@xoxo.zone avatar

    @RickiTarr mine was "demerit". I was stressing the last syllable. my ex's word was "chaos". she thought it rhymes with "cows" -- "shaows".

    datn,
    @datn@xoxo.zone avatar

    @RickiTarr "misle" would rhyme with "reprisal"
