I'd be such a good prepper influencer on TikTok/Youtube. Maybe not popular, but I'd give great advice.

Every video would just be a reminder to wear a fucking respirator and learn new skills.

Maybe we won't survive with my strategy, but I bet it will work better than hoarding bullets and food.

davep,

@tinker is good for urban solarpunk stuff (I think that's what the kids call it 🥴).

For that, specifically, it's very hard when even Governments are pretending it's all over. I'm afraid I don't have any easy answers.

My parents have 50 packets of Oxo cubes in their cupboard, I'm not sure they've got the hang of stock piling.

So, reading the comments from my other post actually brings up some questions for me, I think we've all met people who seem to overestimate their abilities and equally we have met people who seem to underestimate their abilities. What is the difference? Is it misplaced confidence, narcissism, low self esteem? Do we need people who will just make decisions when necessary or is consensus always the path? Is Dunning-Kruger real?

I think in this post Trump Presidency era we all have questions about this, but honestly, that even started in the Bush era, are these men actually "dumb" or is this much more sinister?

davep,

@RickiTarr @1dalm We're all ultimately stuck in our own noggin.

davep,

For creative out there:

What would you name a variable that holds 1 byte?

"byte" is a reserved word since ES3. Variables cannot start with a digit, so "8bits" isn't valid.

"data", "unit", or "num" could work, although less descriptive.

Capitalizing the first character as "Byte"? IMO, looks funny and might break convention.

A homonym? "bite".

For whatever reason, my brain is refusing to cooperate with me today.

davep,

@atoponce And two bytes can be ocelot.

Last night I watched Australian Masterchef.

Somebody made meringue and they all cheered.

"That's odd" I thought. "Normally in Australia they boo meringue".

Health and Beauty Gurus who are under 60 are scam. Come talk to me about wrinkles and joint health when you're 72, then I might buy what you're selling.

davep,

@RickiTarr
I'm reminded of the scene in Coupling where the arrogant and vain woman in the main cast is patronising a very wrinkly old lady, who changes the subject thusly:

"You moisturise every day, don't you dear?"

"Yes, what of it?"

(with a slow smile of triumph) "So did I."

It's amazing. I started three years ago aged cough and was squatting over 100kg in three months. It's brilliant, and exquisitely doseable.

I cannot tell you how much I'm loving True Detective: Night Country. I don't know if it's because I struggled through 3 before watching it or if it's really that good, but I think it's the very best thing I've seen in ages. Going in on episode 4 now. HURRAH!

davep,

@TheBreadmonkey Ooh, time for a quick torrent...

davep,

@MadameMollette Quelle tête de vainqueur!

In a new study published in The British Journal of Sports Medicine, researchers found that while doing either aerobic exercise or strength training was associated with a lower risk of dying during the study’s time frame, regularly doing both — one to three hours a week of aerobic exercise and one to two weekly strength training sessions — was associated with an even lower mortality risk.
