The guy who owns the Baby Trump balloon contacted me today to see if wanted to cover a visit from them when Trump comes to Wildwood, NJ for a rally in May.

I’m quite conflicted. I don’t think I really want to cover the event at all. Not even a counter protest. I did that last time and it was really weak. People were frightened. This was back in 2020, I think.

Also, I’m not sure the ridicule of Trump being called a baby has aged all that well. That’s not a knock. Just how life works.

I do enjoy this time of year, at times. Like today. Sunny, a bit windy, relatively warm. Outside most of the day. Mowing and such. Then sitting in the sun while a chicken roasted on the grill. Now I’m inside listening to Marc Maron talk to John Oliver and I have a fire in the fireplace. It’s still sunny outside. Plus, I’m having a glass of wine.

Even if I made $50k today I don’t know how I could be happier. Why would fame or fortune have any affect on this day? It could only make it worse.

It occurs to me that comedians are not natural allies in liberal politics. We assume they lean to the left, but it’s more complicated than that. Like all independent thinkers, they are resistant to group think. They’re going to have their own take on things and it might not jive with the chosen narrative of the progressive left.

When I was young, mowing the lawn was a summer job for kids. Buy a used lawnmower, or borrow your old man’s, and go door to door in your neighborhood looking for people willing to pay you $20 to mow their lawn. It was that or deliver newspapers. In the winter, you shoveled snow. You had to hustle if you wanted to buy comic books and candy bars.

Crikey I did 10,000 steps yesterday. Pretty good for a day largely devoted to presenting travel writing talks at libraries.

Lots of walking in the towns though, from train stations and to libraries etc; eg I had time to kill before my Mooroopna talk, so I did some writing in the local pub, had a pizza then walked to the local library.

Being very atypical in actually walking around country towns rather than driving, I know. :)

@timrichards Just checking. When I was a teenager, we visited Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL because my sister worked there as a performer.

I met these kids from Canada and they all talked like Bob and Doug McKenize (SCTV). How’s it going, eh? Everytime they said “eh” I lost it. That and their whole accent. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t an act.

I’m such an idiot. I still really think people I knew when I was in my twenties should look just slightly older than when I knew them. I can’t believe that anyone would be 30+ years older and look so. How can all these people be so old?

I don’t think I would be remotely recognizable to anyone who knew me when I was young. I was a thin and beautiful in a way I didn’t even like at the time. I wanted so badly to be bulky and manly. Now I am.

Life is really fucking weird.

At a restaurant in Chinatown and my Spidey sense that alerts me to a Korean-run Japanese restaurant is tingling. (A situation which I like, you get the best of both worlds.) I think the kimchi-filled gyoza is a giveaway.

The entire idea of cheating in the stock market is predicated on the notion that it has any integrity in the first place. It’s all insider trading. Who they bust, and why, is entirely arbitrary.

Tipping more than 20% is immoral. Tipping itself, is also immoral, but we can’t change everything all at once. I will not tip at a counter and I will not tip more than 20% unless it’s a particularly small check. I’ll round up.

Fix the broken system. Don’t ask customers to subsidize your staff. If you can’t afford to pay your employees a living wage, then you don’t have a viable business model.

Everyone is always talking about how they want you to think outside the box, by which, presumably, they mean to think unconventionally. But it’s rare that someone actually wants you to think beyond the parameters of what they’re comfortable with, as their comfort is entirely what delineates the confines of the box. It is, in fact, the very point of the box.
