There are those who find this horrific and can't fathom how someone could be so cruel. They've always felt this way and agree Stephen Miller is a horrible, feculent, despicable person.

Then there's the other side who thinks, "Drone strikes on migrants? That's a damn good idea."

There is no one who reads this story and says to themselves, "Well shoot, I liked Stephen Miller before, but this is a bridge too far."

The high temp today is supposed to hit 70ºF (21ºC) in my area, but hasn't creeped above 60 yet. With cloudy skies, it feels like Fall.

I did not anticipate wanting a sweatshirt and a cup of hot chocolate in the middle of June.

Thanks to and the way it randomizes the that show up on my landing page, I'm rediscovering some titles on my TBR that I've forgotten about. This is far better than starting at the top or bottom of my list, since I rarely make it to the middle.

That's how I wound up starting Underground Airlines by Ben H. Winters. According to my data, I added this book to my TBR in 2016. 7 years later, I'm finally getting to it. @bookstodon

@Rainbright @bookstodon @Remillard @confusedbunny I was looking for a Goodreads alternative because I kind of cringe at the thought of Amazon getting more of my data than it already has. I landed on . While I haven't had time to do a deep dive, I've been liking what I've seen so far. The export from Goodreads was pretty simple.

I don't know if that's the answer you're looking for - It's not part of the Fediverse - but at least it's not making Jeff Bezos richer.

Damn it. One of my favorite travel YouTubers just had a kid and now their slowly morphing into a family channel.

I don't watch family channels because I think it unfairly exploits children who have no control of how they are portrayed.

So it looks like I'll be unsubscribing. Bummer.

@Mrfunkedude I get it. I used to think it was cute and fun to occasionally post pictures of my kids on social media. Then I realized that's not something they signed up for just because I happen to be their father. Their deserves as much respect as mine. Their names and faces won't appear on any site until they're ready to decide if that's something they want.

It's fucking insane how addicted corporations have become to everything you do, everything you look at, everything you type, everything you think about.

They've gotten so brazen about it. Shit like this - the browser routing every image through some "AI enhancer" that also tracks what you're viewing - is now a default setting. I suppose at least people who use Edge can opt out, for now, if they know to.

We need legislation so badly.

I remember when I was looking for Chrome alternatives about two years ago that Brave was supposed to be the answer for all privacy concerns. I elected to go with (with uBlockOrigin) because it seemed more customizable.

Today is the 19th anniversary of my start date at the Palmer House Hilton in #Chicago, Illinois, USA. If you were a guest at the Palmer House between June of 2004 and August 2006, it's entirely possible that I checked you in for your stay.

If that's the case, hello again! I apologize if your room was impossibly small. I promise it wasn't personal. The hotel is old.

@rb It's definitely unique! My only complaint about the lobby of the Palmer House Hilton is that it's completely isolated from the outside. No windows to indicate time of day or weather. Take away the clocks and it's like being inside a (very beautiful) casino.

@drahardja I've been beating this drum for a while . "Pro-life" is inaccurate and language made up by those that advocate against bodily autonomy. When the media uses "pro-life" to describe those people, they are capitulating and letting the forced-birth advocates control the conversation. Don't let the forced-birth advocates get away with it.

Any time you see someone describe themselves as "pro-life," correct them. "You mean pro-forced birth." Force them to defend their indefensible position.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @Skepticat @tristansnell I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that after a person is in leadership for a while they start to prep some new blood for a passing of the torch. Pelosi was criticized in 2020 for not doing that. She's done an amazing job, but she can't be around forever.
