@ai6yr Yup. Often early sign of impending stroke. Happened to pops who refused the ambulance and was confused as to why it was called. Brother took him to hospital anyways. He ended up with a triple bypass and a stroke.

It seems that many people misheard the news about the ban on exportation of non-basmati from India. They are panic-buying Basmati too.

deewani,
@deewani@mastodon.social avatar

With Russia’s actions affecting grain, I wouldn’t be surprised if wheat is impacted once again, leading to another exportation ban from India, similar to 2022.

Oh crap... a retired couple I know from church appears to have BOTH succumbed to -- died in their home. This is no joke, folks.

deewani,
@deewani@mastodon.social avatar

@ai6yr So sorry for your loss. So many seniors move there. I get that housing etc is cheaper but I always think about the heat. Folks may be lucky enough to have a/c but what happens when the power goes out?

deewani,
@deewani@mastodon.social avatar

@ai6yr I think many seniors may also have issues with their own sense of temp regulation. Our downstairs thermostat is going to be replaced Thursday. My father ( who cannot go upstairs) regularly wears a flannel in the morning if I am lucky enough to be able to cool the house with the delta breeze and he keeps it on as the temp climbs… I have to remind him about it as well and remind him to drink water periodically, not all at once…

It appears someone attempted a move in (drove a car off a steep bank, crashed the car, survived, and ran away... left behind tasers/gun/etc.) https://abc7.com/san-francisco-car-crash-stairs-ca-california-news/13546477/

@ferluc @ai6yr @futureape Napping was very common in India when I visited in the early 90s. Shops all closed down, everyone napped. Tea time followed that and then dinner as late as 10 pm. It is probably the same now… Frustrating for those of us not used to that schedule. I had taken 3 showers in one day there and still felt sticky. I think other countries may be similar with naps and very late dinner/suppers.

@ai6yr Read post yesterday from @ryanmaue about contribution to warming: “Initial scientific estimates were 50-million metric tons of water injected into the stratosphere by Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai submarine volcano. Likely off by a factor of 3. New research suggests 150-million metric tons or almost 40 Trillion gallons of water vapor was injected into the upper-atmosphere. A lot of it is still up there floating around.”

"Japan's Fire and Disaster Management Agency says the weekly number of people taken to hospital with heatstroke has doubled in the country from the previous week amid a heat wave. The agency says 8,189 people were taken to hospital in the week through Sunday. The number has not just doubled from the previous week, but has also doubled from the same period last year." https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20230719_36/

@ai6yr Climate change + pandemic. The health care system is already stressed there b/c of recent surge in ; the heat driving even more people indoors, not a great combo. :(

Project for next week, hopefully. Two more (free) sling style chairs for re-slinging. Easy enough to re-do these. They will, however, be a different color, as it is past summer fabric season and I'm just buying the cheapest I can find.

@ai6yr love how easy they are to wash, dry quickly. Used to have a rocker chair version too. :)

Hmm, running into lots of grumpy/cranky people yesterday/today (online and offline). Curious if it's because I am extra annoying the last couple of days, or because everyone is too hot due to the heatwave. 🤔

deewani,
@deewani@mastodon.social avatar

@andybrwn @ai6yr Really really thankful for the delta breeze and overnight cooling in Fairfield; esp since the thermostat died; at least it was the one for downstairs. But with measures mentioned in Ben’s heatwave thread, so far have managed to keep it at 78/79 max. I set it at 78 normally anyways so just hope it continues to cool at night. :)

deewani,
@deewani@mastodon.social avatar

@andybrwn @ai6yr Noooo lol. I love that natural a/c at 3am haha.

deewani,
@deewani@mastodon.social avatar

@andybrwn @ai6yr Thanks so much for the info. Ick. A/C guy coming Tues. I already did the multimeter tests.. If it was my house I woulda popped on a new thermostat or bypassed the thermostat for downstairs if it got really bad…. Alas it’s a rental until our home is rebuilt (fire). Currently only 75 downstairs. So I can’t complain.

deewani,
@deewani@mastodon.social avatar

@andybrwn @ai6yr I was just looking at screenshots from 6/17/21: 108° outside, 85 downstairs and 90 upstairs. A/C had needed refrigerant then… So I am quite relieved. Home came with model home staging window coverings, many of them sheer. I have only been using the $5/$6 room darkening (not blackout) disposable redi-shades. They make a huge difference tho. Now we pray power stays on… Thanks again!

Back on the elephant platform, since the bird one is becoming unusable: Inland temps soaring into the 90s again by 12pm on the final day of the heat advisory. We will see increasing wind into the evening ahead of cooling Mon/Tue. Very low RH% inland & over the hills as the hot/dry/windy conditions = + fire danger. 7/2/2023
I’m so excited about the future I love
