I make electronics go beep boop and tools go spinny. Also, I pet cats sometimes.

I've seen a lot of articles about how many games are on Steam now, and how this presents a massive visibility challenge, buuuut

How about this view instead?

This excludes the games that have limited profile features. That is, this excludes the games that essentially no one saw/bought.

(it really doesn't take much push to clear the limited profile features)

I occasionally see people asking about induction stovetops. Here is a brief guide to cooking with induction:

  • holds up vegetable this is food
  • if you increase the temperature of food by 1°C, it is still food
  • therefore holds up cooked vegetable this is food

i propose a positive correlation between enjoying baldur’s gate 3, and having no previous experience with larian’s divinity: original sin games (original or sequel)

emily,
@emily@sparkly.uni.horse avatar

@jacqueline unclear if you're considering ordering here: bg3 was my first larian game, I enjoyed it, went to try bg1-2 but noticed a lot of the people complaining about bg3 were saying it felt more like a divinity game than a bg game

so I was like "clearly that is a thing I like" and bought D:OS2 instead, still playing it, but I see where people where coming from and I like this too.

emily,
@emily@sparkly.uni.horse avatar

@jacqueline voted "enjoyed, didn't play" as the closest thing to your intent then

@jacqueline critiquing people's surveys for being unclear or wrong used to be a hobby of mine, I had a reddit novelty account and everything

I requested access to all the zone files from ICANN because I was mildly curious about something, and got approved within minutes.

And they're sending me an email to let me know.

For each TLD.

All 1150 of them.

Are you still recommending fedi to your real-life friends who aren't yet on fedi?

    emily,

@ifixcoinops this question has "would you recommend windows 10 to a friend?" "nobody has conversations where they recommend operating systems to each other" vibes

Should we coin a dedicated hashtag for Glasgow - Digital Interface Explorer? What would it be ? or ? 🤔 suggestions? Hashtags are pretty important here on fediverse... so having a hashtag that does not collide with the city of Glasgow might be a good idea here.

Me: I have an appointment in the morning and won't have a car for it so I guess I'll install lyft now so I have it ready to go tomorrow

Lyft: hahaha nope we made the only android app in existence that actually refuses to work without google services, instead of just comically showing "this won't work" warnings and then continuing to work just fine like most android apps

Me: okay fine I'll use your website

Lyft: hahaha nope we deleted our website and only support the app now

Me: ... you know what, I haven't gone for a bike ride in a while

Finished making a Giant Bolt (lathe drawbar) tonight.

I need to just sit down with some scraps and get good at single point threading. Cutting M12 threads into steel by hand with a die is hard. I kind of just stopped halfway down, decided that was enough threads, and turned the remaining should've-been-threaded space down to fit inside the threaded hole.

I know, I know, I said I was done computerposting and I wanted to be done computerposting because computers are horrible woeboxen, but here we go. Mute me for a day or two, I'll post better stuff soon.

Anyway game devs, or really anyone with too many projects along many different areas of expertise and too much disk space, what do your home or documents folders look like? Say I've already done a raccoon game and I wanna do a bunny game, does my home folder look like

    music/
    -bun
    -rac
    sfx/
    -bun
    -rac
    psd/
    -sprites/
    --bun/
    --rac/
    -bg/
    --bun/
    --rac/
    notes/
    -bun/
    -rac/
    code/
    -bun
    -rac

Or does it look more like

    bun/
    -music/
    -sfx/
    -psd/
    --sprites/
    --bg/
    -notes/
    -code/
    rac/
    -music/
    -sfx/
    -psd/
    --sprites/
    --bg/
    -notes/
    -code/

Or do you just have one folder full of files called bunSprite092finalusethisone.psd right next to raclevel1testnotes.txt

Generally How Do You Do Computer Hoard

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: I'm gonna set this crap up to backup/sync with Nextcloud, some of it's gonna go on my phone, there's no sense in me having bunsprite.psd on my phone but bunnote.txt would be handy to have on there

    emily,
    @emily@sparkly.uni.horse avatar

@ifixcoinops project as the highest level, but notes are a special case, I keep them in my wiki and just don't bother versioning them with the rest of the thing

It occurs to me that I can't ever write a sudoku solver.

Not because I don't know how to (I can both write code and solve sudoku, combining these skills seems obviously possible), but because it would actively make my life worse to have one: I've discovered that doing sudoku in bed is just the right level of mentally engaging to make me sleepy quickly (a few fixed algorithms that take low but nonzero effort, not exciting enough to stay awake for more), and I also know that I can't bear to do something manually when I spent time automating that specific thing.

when you're installing a mouse driver into your DOS installation, do you do the lazy thing and stick MOUSE.EXE/CTMOUSE.EXE into C:\DOS? or do you keep things "clean" by putting it in C:\MOUSE and adjusting the PATH?

    emily,
    @emily@sparkly.uni.horse avatar

@foone @blp there's an alternate timeline where mice speak ISA and the card is just a bunch of plain traces coming out of some cursed connector, turning 90 degrees, and going directly into the slot
