I was incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to try Vision Pro this week. The experience was overwhelming in the best possible way. I'm still collecting my thoughts for a longer Design Diary post, but it was so transformative that I'm finding it hard to put the experience into words.

As I work on that, I wanted to ask for any questions folks had with regards to using it and more generally for the platform from a developer/designer perspective. I'll do my best to answer to them.

exkclamation,
@exkclamation@mastodon.social avatar

@_Davidsmith you probably won’t have this information yet, but I keep wondering if the Vision Pro will interact with the Apple Watch hardware similar to how in the keynote demo it “syncs” with a Mac when you look at a MacBook Pro for example?

Would be so cool to be wearing the Vision Pro and look at your Apple Watch, and some special informatics or UX happens in the spatial view! Any chance this was mentioned or demoed in the hands-on?

Apple is pre-announcing some Accessibility features likely coming to iOS 17 later this year, and we have the details on @macstories.

Two features are especially a big deal:

  • Personal Voice will let users who are at risk of losing their voice create a synthetic version of it. All done with Neural Engine on-device.

  • Assistive Access is a brand new, simplified UI mode for iPhone and iPad that streamlines the entire UI.

Holy cow! I knew the PAC Man set was cool but I didn’t know it was this cool. It’s animated, lights up and has a mini build inside!! Amazing!

@exkclamation@mastodon.social avatar

@gedeonm omg I want it so badly. How cool is that animation?

_Davidsmith, to random
@_Davidsmith@mastodon.social avatar

The reason I was curious about the number dial direction is because of how Live Activities animate numerical fields changing. iOS has chosen that the next number comes from above for "count up" and from below for "count down", which feels natural to me...but according to initial results of that poll about half of people think the opposite way.

A video showing an iPhone Home Screen counting up time. The numerals on the timer appear to animate in from above.

exkclamation,
@exkclamation@mastodon.social avatar

@_Davidsmith I voted “below” but seeing this demo, agree it looks most natural. Above for counting up and below for counting down makes a lot of sense…

🐘 Alright, fam - let's talk Last.fm.

Does anyone else still use this ancient relic? Went back and notice that I've been scrobbling since 2012 and have racked up a whopping 144,489 scrobbles 😱

exkclamation,
@exkclamation@mastodon.social avatar

@david_senate I used it extensively from 2007-2011 and only recently picked it up again after a recommendation by @nfd. Now I’m a paid ‘pro’ user, happily scrobbling along and really enjoying tracking my music stats again!

One of my all-time favorite background tracks for uninterrupted thinking/notthinking time: Thursday Afternoon, by Brian Eno. I imagine that if the bokeh effect in photography had a soundtrack, it would be this.

This one I would rate as fairly easy. Its an Australian Dinosaur I plan on seeing today at the Queensland Museum

Reminder: hide your answer behind a CW. This will allow others to guess without a hint. I will post the answer tomorrow (and to anyone who guesses correctly).

This was designed by me, instructions in my future lego book (if its ever released)

@TheDinosaurDave pretty sure that's a Sauropod, and therefore... I think I am going with Brontosaurus on this one! 🦕

Now that macOS 14 and iOS 17 will support interactive widgets, what would you want? Any creative ideas? (Other than the obvious like checking off tasks/lists)

exkclamation,
@exkclamation@mastodon.social avatar

@sindresorhus what if there was an ultra-quick Apple TV remote widget? Play/pause menu mute?

exkclamation,
@exkclamation@mastodon.social avatar

@sindresorhus it would be nice to have a quick mood entry widget. Like a colorful mood ring of sorts? Not sure if that is possible, but something easy access to tie into the new health details?

Disney will remove over 50 shows from Disney Plus and Hulu this month - The Verge https://www.theverge.com/2023/5/19/23729642/disney-plus-hulu-remove-pull-shows-willow-streaming-bob-iger

In 1963, Doug Langdon found a partial skeleton near the Thomson River not too far from the town of Muttaburra. It was collected by Dr Alan Bartholomai and entomologist Edward Dahms.

I was prepared slowly and carefully over the following years. In 1981, Bartholomai and Ralph Molnar named it Muttaburrasaurus Langdoni, after the town, and person who found it.

In 2022 Muttaburrasaurus was named the State Fossil Emblem of Queensland.

@TheDinosaurDave has to be Zuniceratops, but i am second guessing myself because the horns, eyes, and snout shape. (Although, seems more likely from limitations of the LEGO medium.)

Spinosaurus has one of the most interesting backstories. It was originally found by Richard Markgraf in Western Egypt. It was described by Ernst Stromer in 1915. This partial skeleton was destroyed in World War Two. It was survived by Stromers drawings of the fossil.

It wasnt until 2002 when other fragments were found. They were later identified as Spinosaurus.

In 2005 more partial skeletons were found. Slowly our view on Spinosaurus changed.
