Back in my day programmers were trusted to touch computer memory in their programs. Not that they were good at it, but at least they were trusted.

f3rno64,
@f3rno64@aus.social avatar

@SergKoren These days, we've learned to trust the compiler, which is much better at writing optimal instructions and making efficient use of memory.

I'd call it an improvement, but it was definitely cool to be a coder back in the day.

f3rno64,
@f3rno64@aus.social avatar

@SergKoren As long as the code is bug-free, a machine will always complete its task correctly, unless an external problem disrupts its operation. It isn't even a question of trust.

I trust humans to care, feel, and have innate potential to provide unique value. Computers only do what we tell them to do.

f3rno64,
@f3rno64@aus.social avatar

@SergKoren Code is never complete, and we are always perfecting computing. It will never be absolutely perfect in execution, your points are valid. You must admit we have made extreme progress relative to pre-computing times, though.

So can we just say that the rapture happened during the eclipse, and if youโ€™re still here you were never going there anyway?

Yโ€™know, for when it gets bought up again in the futureโ€ฆ

f3rno64,
@f3rno64@aus.social avatar

@dgar @GGMcBG What are you all referring too by 'rapture' in this context?

f3rno64,
@f3rno64@aus.social avatar

@dgar @GGMcBG Poetic but it sounds like the ending of a fairy tale, given that death is permanent. Would one die a second time, post-rapture? It sounds like it would open up that possibility... Jeez. Despisers of the flesh, as some have said.

As I've noticed it's #PortfolioDay and have seen some wonderful artwork posted by people, as a programmer, I'd like to share a project I made, a command line time tracker with the purely textual interface.

Since I spent a good deal of time designing the textual output and UX I figure it's akin to art.

The interface is natural language input of times and dates representing when you start and end tasks.

It's available at https://f3rno64.io/a-nodejs-cli-time-tracker and the associated blog post is at https://f3rno64.io/a-nodejs-cli-time-tracker

A list of timesheets and the sum of the durations of tasks within them.
A concise listing of a short period of time in a timesheet with a few tasks listed.

Yesterday, I discovered Obsidian and have been obsessed with it for the last forty-eight hours. It's a markdown editor with a rich plugin ecosystem that rivals Visual Studio code ๐Ÿš€

After spending hours installing plugins, configuring settings for each one (and there are many), assigning hotkeys, I arrived at the post powerful Markdown editing experience that I've encountered. There are tons of themes and the Markdown rendering is amazing. Export to PDF, HTML, and more is supported.

It's fantastic for creating a knowledge base but can also be used to create a wiki-style site with the Obsidian Publish service. And there's a mobile app, but I have not tried it.

Highly recommended!, check it out if you want to take notes/start a personal wiki, and have some free time.

Here's the homepage: https://obsidian.md/

If you try it, let me know what you think!

Hi everyone!

This is my (or ) post for the aus.social mastodon, as recommended by @aussocialadmin.

I'm new to this server and to in general, so I'm still getting used to best practices.

Professionally, I'm a senior software engineer and absolutely love .

I have over 10 years of professional experience, and in general, if I see a screenshot or graphic mockup of it, I can build it.

My GitHub can be found at https://github.com/f3rno64

If you have any technical questions or need some coding done, message me!

Overall, I'm usually either working on some new personal project, studying some newly-released technology, or playing video games ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ“บ

I work from home, so my days are a bit bland. I want to connect with like-minded people here on and hopefully make new friends with similar interests, as they are hard to find around here (I'm from , ).

If you ever want to chat, reach out! ๐Ÿš€

And if you read this far, cheers to you ๐Ÿป

Have a great day!
