🆕 post -- Revenue retrospect: 5 years of indie blogging

As a full-time , 2023 was a wake-up call. To explain, I'm sharing my site revenues over the past 5 full calendar years, along with the outside factors that made the most impact.

Ricky Gervais didn't offend me back in the 2010s. He doesn't offend me now. But he also hasn't grown or changed as a comedian since the early 2000s. It's the same material now as it was then. And at this point, it's just dull.

Little known fact about me: I hate needles. I passed out the last few times I had blood drawn, and so I generally avoid the Dr. I am about a week in to some sort of excruciating foot issue and it’s making it super hard to sleep, so I am resigning myself to the inevitable trip to the people vet in the morning, and the prospect of needles is stressing me out.

Now, I have been giving my cat shots 2x daily for almost a year, so I am hopeful that may have desensitized me enough.

Getting old sucks. I don’t recommend it.

I always talk about how I love how the holiday period is a great time to clear out the office/lab...and yet I just found a Raspberry Pi 1A in my bin here. Gotta buckle down this year and really get rid of the old stuff.

It's taken a few weeks but I think I've finally turned the corner with . I've only opened up once this week and that was just for a few minutes to format code with Prettier. I have Prettier and an LSP installed but formatting isn't quite working for me yet in Neovim.

I'm still not super fast with keyboard shortcuts and motions but I'm getting there! 🎉

@kevinctofel intriguing, I use vi when a gui is not available but I don't think I'd pick it when there was an easy gui option. What motivates your move?

@kevinctofel @HankB great answer, makes sense! I definitely do this with gui editors too, with cursor keys and modifiers for selection. But the programmatic move/select commands vim has are unmatched!

Been practicing my upcoming TED talk for over a month and today I finally did a runthrough that went perfectly well, where I felt centered and poised. Reader, I did it while I was making the bed. Hopefully they'll be able to provide me with fitted sheets and a mattress when I actually give my talk.
