He'd get in endless arguments and canceled almost immediately (not to mention the weird shit he'd get caught liking), but I would have liked to have seen Robert A. Heinlein with a Twitter account.

Someone should design an ISA ARGB control box.
Then you can run a TSR to let you reconfigure your 486's RGB lighting scheme at a moment's notice

using a floppy disk image creating tool to create a virtual floppy disk image using a file that I had to load off a floppy disk, so I can put it in a VM and turn it into a PCX, then put that on a real pentium-60 windows 95 PC

sometimes I think I'm going backwards

I had a weird realization today:
You know how I make terrible keyboards? It turns out I can also made good keyboards!

Well, kinda. I had this silly gamer keyboard I kept around because it was small and I used it when I needed a random USB keyboard, but it was horrible to use. No contrast on the key labels...

but wait I have a bunch of keycaps since I'm a keyboard-making punk. what if I just put some onto it... and now it's readable! and looks snappy!

My roommate linked me to this exceptional keyboard design.
I love/hate it.

My roommate's PC has started throwing Machine Check Exceptions when I try to boot Linux. Like, it thinks an entire CORE is dead.
That's... Impressively broken! I'm not even sure how you'd break a system this badly, even if her cooling system has totally failed (cpus aren't supposed to idle at 85°C, right?)

has anyone tried putting SSDs in a freezer to see if it can revive them?

I'm still broke, though I've got a temp job for now: they've not yet paid me, however, and I've had to pay something like 4k$ for two medications, and another 2k$ that was supposedly going to make the 4k$ free.

So any donations would be great. https://ko-fi.com/fooneturing

I think someone is trying to give me a virus with a tif file. I'm curious as to how that's even possible but I swore an oath about not doing security research so I'm gonna have to avoid looking into it

for complicated tumblr reasons involving dreaming of classified CIA visual novels, I mocked up a Powerpoint 4.0 slide for government agents trying to seduce transfems.

I thought I'd share it here for retro nostalgia and trans shitposting reasons

I got recognized at the electronics fair, but the funniest part is that they didn't fully recognize me at first.

Then I mentioned I was planning to do Terrible Things to a keyboard I bought, and THAT'S WHEN they recognized me.

Apparently my reputation precedes me.

One of the problems of living in a future where megascale engineering is commonplace is that when you see a hotel described as "five star" you're not sure if they have good ratings or just did some significant stellar manipulation to build their space station

People are always telling me I'm "basic" but they won't clarify if they mean like qbasic or visual basic or one of the 8bit micro basics?

Today's discovery: a semi-automatic high res microfiche scanner will not work if you forget to put the microfiche into it

I think my next project along the lines of VGAPride might be writing programs to display a trans pride flag for as many platforms as possible.
Like, a simple c64 program, qbasic, win32, js, etc.

I wonder if anyone has made a USB PC speaker.

It'd be one of those 2-3" speakers, only bleeps, and it comes inside a reverberant metal box

I ran into a bug in a program but logging is off. I'll just enable logging and run it again, surely I'll quickly run into the same bug again, it'll definitely reoccur!

Behold, a fool.

the raspberry pi pico is a neat and cheap microcontroller but I just hate the SDK for it.
every time I've tried to write any code for one I've spent 95% of my time trying to get the fucker to build properly and only 5% actually writing code

Podbean is a great app! it is the only music player I've ever used that randomly stops playing every 20 minutes for no reason.

I had a better experience with Winamp back in 1998 and it would periodically skip because I didn't have enough CPU to use it and Internet Explorer at the same time

I tried to log into an FTP site that was on the first page of google results and it turns out it hasn't existed in 10 years.

that's a SLIGHTLY out of date result, googs

linux question where I figure someone might have the answer on the top of their head:
I have like three microcontrollers plugged into one system and they're all acting as serial ports, so I get /dev/ttyACM0 and ttyACM1 and ttyACM2:
How can I tell which one is which? like, spelunk into /sys/ and figure out the pid/vid of each?

My favorite processor is 32bit x86

If you made a food that had one gram of sugar and one gram of antimatter sugar (kept in a metastable magnetic trap, of course), how would you do the nutrition label?
Does it have 2 grams of sugar?
Does it have 1, because you can only digest the regular matter sugar?
Does it have 0, because they cancel each other out?

I need to write to the FDA

I'm not saying this program has slightly broken, but top does say that it has tried to allocate a terabyte of RAM
