If you’re going to interview Donald Trump, you had better be prepared to fact check him in real time. Our media does a terrible job of allowing him to spew falsehoods and spread conspiracies without calling him out on them. This is not the time to platform Trump like he is some regular politician. He is an existential threat to our democracy, including to institutions such as the free press. Do better.

So, @colinpurrington got me thinking about rove beetles, while searching for a silly drawing I did of one I found ... this ... individual? er- these individuals?

The rove beetle, bottom has grown a "termite puppet" on it's back to trick termites into feeding it.

That's the problem with being a eusocial insect, some little fool is always pulling a con.

Rove beetles also run with army ants. Though, there is some evidence sometimes it's less parasitic and more mutual.

Did an edit on the ant being reunited with her pet aphid (who was lost, she had to put up posters)

Now you can see the little arms of the aphid reaching better.

@animefeminist i think it was madoka rebellion. i enjoyed it at the time due to it's beautiful animation and for having some nice character moments here and there. the story for most of the movie i thought was ok but the ending (where they literally demonize the protagonist for her queerness) was just awful. overall an unfortunate follow up to a much better series methinks

I hate it when there is a super cute cat video... and they dub in cute sounds from a different video.

Especially the "num num num..." eating sound.

You see I am an expert sniff (adjusts ascot) of cat noises and it's painfully obvious to my refined eye when a cat is simply not moving its mouth in a manner that would produce such a sound. It annoys me deeply.

This is one of the great problems of our day, clearly.

gay_ornithischians,
@gay_ornithischians@sauropods.win avatar

@futurebird it's also super annoying when the video has some sort of caption that is placed in a way that obscures the animal, even tho there's enough space in the frame to not cover the animal

@futurebird friend do you know what this might be?
it was climbing up a wall when i found it. It seemed to me like it had bulbous head and a flexible “neck”. When transferring it to the paper it seemed to hang from the wall using a string. The leaf shaped section appears to be a hollow shell. The head and neck could disappear into the inside of the shell, even when hanging from the wall. Could it be a bagworm caterpillar? should i relocate somewhere specific? its in a potted plant for now

a tiny bug on a piece of paper it seems to be inside a mottled leaf shaped shell. it moves its head side to side

anyways from now on instead of shapeless, featureless sculpture like this whowever approves public art should consider instaling an extinct or obscure animal sculpture instead

I finally understand what "CVS Caremark" is-- (it's not CVS stores) basically it's a service used by a number of huge healthcare plans to manage approved drugs and secure prices. It has its own network of pharmacies that goes way beyond just CVS.

This is why no one at your health insurance knows anything about why X drug wasn't approved.

I thought it was CVS stalking me trying to get me to go there for years, but my charmingly dysfunctional pharmacy is a "caremark" pharmacy.

a big reason covid misinfo has been so successful imo is that most people simply believe in capitalism.

to understand, let alone question, why covid misinfo is so readily promulgated by mainstream Democrats and their media, you have to understand that regardless of where this set lands on culture wars, they are fundamentally faithful to the current capitalist order.

if you accept the implicit hierarchy of capital, all the Covid myths make sense because they serve that order

Honestly one thing i never got was the phrase "suspiciously wealthy furries". They got tech money and/or are budget a larger than average amount of money towards art (which is any number greater than zero) and/or they are fiscally irresponsible. One or all of the three.

gay_ornithischians,
@gay_ornithischians@sauropods.win avatar

@oct2pus i imagine like cosplayers many furries also do a lot of their own crafting. presumably that would greatly reduce costs, even if it remains an expensive hobby

The Archer left his pack behind. I examined his quiver.

It contained just one arrow. There was something wrong with it... tiny insects covered its surface. With little blue flashes of light they would vanish & reappear.

"Time flies." I whispered in horror.

"And?" Said the Archer. He had returned! Silently, he loomed in the door. "There is little I can do." He explained. "Time flies like an arrow."

[I run from the room, instinctively ducking the oncoming barrage of rotten vegetables.]
