Been thinking hard about blogs again, as I do every few months. I've had a website since at least 1998 and was blogging before I knew there was even a name for it, hand coding pages with dates and entries in HTML. Still maintain my website at https://gregpak.com. Still think of it as the center of my web presence, a place I completely own and control that a fickle billionaire can't easily ruin. Still wonder what it would take to make blogs take off again.

Finally decided to watch a movie from 2017 that I'd missed at the time. Checked around and it's not streaming anywhere. No physical media in the US. Only way to get it is to buy a DVD from overseas. This is not what we were promised.

Tech question, for anyone who knows... when the Apple app store says an app (Threads, etc) collects info about purchase, health, browsing history, etc., does that mean the app just collects info from clicks you make from the app? Or is the app rooting around in your OTHER apps for data?

Tech question that's #ActivityPub and #Threads related... just trying to figure out how this will actually work once Threads joins ActivityPub...

If I migrated a Threads account to Mastodon, would all my Threads followers end up automatically following me on Mastodon? And my Mastodon posts would show up in their Threads app?

I thiiink that's what it sounds like, but I'm honestly not sure!

I tried it months ago but stopped because it seemed to create a profile that I couldn't edit and I wasn't able to delete posts or the profile itself. Just curious if that's changed and if there's any way to delete/edit posts and the profile itself? Thanks!

The older I get, the more tired I get of recharging devices. I regularly use a laptop, an iPad, and an iPhone. If I had to remember to charge anything else, I'd lose my mind. Honestly and seriously decreases my interest in acquiring any other electronic device.

Got home after being out of town and promptly fried my backup hard drive by accidentally plugging it back into the wrong power source. The plug area of the enclosure smells like burned rubber. Hopeful that it's just the enclosure and I can open it up and save the actual hard drive. #FunTimes

Worth noting: if you like something you read online that was written by a human, SHARE IT.

That's the best way to fight back if you hate the way our digital overlords are ruining discovery & overloading everything with AI-generated bullshit.

Also: do not think that your followers will abandon you if you share good things. From experience, I assure you that sharing good things INCREASES your social capital and BUILDS your follower count and loyalty. Cast your bread upon the digital water, etc.

That funky condo at 101 West 14th St. in NYC, shot with a cheap but pretty awesome Sears rangefinder that's a near clone of the Ricoh 500 RF. An incredibly compact rangefinder with all manual focus and exposure that you can read and set without taking your eye from the lens. Not bad!
