Worth noting: if you like something you read online that was written by a human, SHARE IT.

That's the best way to fight back if you hate the way our digital overlords are ruining discovery & overloading everything with AI-generated bullshit.

Also: do not think that your followers will abandon you if you share good things. From experience, I assure you that sharing good things INCREASES your social capital and BUILDS your follower count and loyalty. Cast your bread upon the digital water, etc.

I will never criticize anyone for worrying about follower counts on social media because I live in the United States where a few thousand more followers might be the only thing that saves you when you launch your seemingly inevitable medical emergency GoFundMe.

Needed to get info about something from a government agency today. Checked their website, which said to check their Twitter account. Clicked on the link and couldn't see their posts because I don't have Twitter on my phone any longer and Twitter now requires you to sign in to see posts.

I was able to get the info from a different part of the agency's site. But this is just a small indicator of how fatally public services are tied up with that awful website, to the detriment of us all.

BIG UPDATE: Brandon Kraft at Automattic very helpfully responded to me on Mastodon and said the company has NOT already sold Wordpress posts to "A.I." companies for model training via Jetpack/Firehose! A relief. But the company's still planning to sell Wordpress.com & Tumblr posts, so opting out seems smart to me!
