With "allies" like Scholz europe doesn't need enemies with regard to Ukraine...
German Parliament voted to get Ukraine some long range missiles and Scholz again blocks it.
By not making a firm stand but expressing fear and weakness he invites Russian agression.

@ErikJonker It's always made to sound as if Scholz decides this on his own, as if he were like the US president, having total control over foreign policies. As far as I know he's just a 'prime minister' talking on behalf of the cabinet and maybe on behalf of the majority coalition. Am I wrong? Or is it really "just Scholz and his personal opinion"?

@ErikJonker Hmm, it seems the Chancellor position and powers does somewhat mimic that of a president, and can't simply be compared to that of a prime minister 🤔.

@LiefhebberV @ErikJonker Als Israël een democratie is, dan maakt dat deze etnische zuivering en (oorlogs)misdaden vooral nóg erger.
De Russische bevolking heeft nog het excuus dat ze niet zomaar van een dictator en zijn propaganda afkomen. Maar de Israeliërs hielpen blijkbaar op democratische wijze hun huidige racistische apartheidsregime aan de macht 😬.

('t Is afwachten wat Milei gedaan krijgt in z'n gevormde coalitie met de andere partijen, maar ik vermoed dat etnische zuivering niet op z'n wensenlijstje staat.)

Een simpele vraag waar Gemini Advanced bij faalt, maar GPT4 niet, "wat is zwaarder een kilo veren of een pond lood ?" , bizar als je bedenkt hoeveel geld, mankracht en onderzoek er achter Google Gemini zit

Het meest waarschijnlijke vervolg van de kabinetsformatie is zo klaar als een klontje. Drie partijen die volledig gaan deelnemen: PVV, BBB, VVD, met gedoogsteun NSC.
Maar best wel heel weinig bereikt in de afgelopen periode.

Trump still doesn't understand how NATO works, he still thinks allies "owe us money" and he's now sending a signal to Russia to attack them while the crowd cheers. This is an invitation to Putin to broaden the war.

I registered at , the platform feels a bit limited, especially in comparison with the current state of Mastodon. So i will probably stay here but it's also good to have an account in your own name somewhere, just to be sure 🙂

@ErikJonker It does feel half-baked yes, but there are frequent feature updates. Still looks promising to me. Personally I like the optional algorithmic feeds, and hierarchical threads. Mastodon's 100% chronological feeds seem too confusing and limited to me.

@ErikJonker Aha, I have no experience doing that. But that still leaves the very basic chronological 'conversations'/threads (afaik). When they're long, I think it's more efficient to have the best-liked replies, and the replies from people in your network at the top of the thread, and to have posts with people replying to one another grouped, like on twitter, ideally collapsible 'branches'.

@ErikJonker I like having options like these. Obviously people who follow thousands of accounts will have different feed-preference than people only following 10 accounts.

Folks promoting Bluesky on the fediverse is like the three little pigs doing public relations for the big bad wolf.

But, hey, clearly some folks still haven’t gotten the message that VC and billionaires are bad and that non-corporate spaces have to be protected from corporate ones.

I guess something has to keep the folks who write “what went wrong/if only we’d known” articles in business.

Bluesky imo has (will have) better account portability (including posts), better feeds (algorithmic choice), and better moderation (not depending on admin's moodswings) than Mastodon.

If we extrapolate a few years on current models like Google Lumiere, we arrive in a world where any video can be synthetically created. I am optimistic we can probably detect those made artificially but it will become harder every day. But what will the other effects be. On arts, entertainment, news, journalism, television, society etc? ...i hope that policy makers start thinking about that.

@ErikJonker Or what if, 'in a couple of years', your evening movie could be generated or altered in real-time 😎. You could press a button on the remote, or give a thumbs-up/down to the house camera, when you (dis)like a particular scene to give the AI some feedback. Or you could finally watch a TV series without that annoyingly loud background music or canned laughter 👍.

@ErikJonker Hopelijk gaan ze nu niet bezuinigen op betrouwbaarheid, kwaliteit en de app. Dat zijn nou nét de redenen waarom mensen de hoofdprijs willen betalen voor Hue en de Chineze meuk laten liggen.

    It is essential to stop using Chrome.

    Under the pretense of saving users from third-party spyware, Google is creating an ecosystem in which Chrome itself is the spyware.

    Given Google's overwhelming presence in the browser market, this is unconscionable.

    We should all despise the ad-tech business, and have no sympathy for the companies getting whacked by Google's actions. But we should not permit one monopolist to replace them all.

    In Nederland hebben we een"traditie" waarbij we zeker weten dat we tientallen auto's afbranden, objecten opblazen, agenten en anderen verwonden, eigendommen van particulieren en overheid beschadigen. Andere landen kijken verbijsterd toe.

    Hoe mooi en gaaf ook is, advertenties zijn ook daar uiteindelijk onafwendbaar verder is het een platform gecontroleerd door 1 bedrijf, voordelen van en blijven overeind lijkt me. Meer controle over data, flexibeler, opensource etcetera

    It seems that the plan is to gradually roll federation out in stages over the next year. The most telling reveal is in the screenshotted toot by Meta advocate Evan:

    "Also, as far as I could tell, the most important use case for them is that a creator could move from Threads to their own server, even if they get de-platformed. I think the major motivator here is Mark Zuckerberg having to go testify in front of Congress twice a year or whatever, and getting grilled by conservative Congresspeople about de-platforming. Being able to say, you can get kicked off Threads but keep your followers, is a big win in this situation."

    If correct, the impression here is that Meta is interested in ActivityPub's account portability, so they can offload problematic fascists to the fediverse without too much disgruntlement. They see the fedi as a dumping ground into which they can externalize toxic users without having to either moderate them on their own server, or provoke them by wiping out their social graph.

    In Zuckerberg's scheme, our community is to become a landfill for fascism.

    Het beeld is nu wel duidelijk, Wilders wil alles beloven, dat kan hij ook als enig lid van een politieke partij die geen democratie kent, BBB en NSC gaan dat allemaal geloven, vastleggen in een bijlage van een regeerakkoord oid en klaar... Gesprekken over rechtstaat en grondwet kunnen inderdaad dan in een dagje klaar zijn. Kwalijk is wel dat Wilders geheel los van zijn verkiezingsprogramma, alleen gaat bepalen wat goed voor zijn kiezers is..

    Ik ben meestal geen voorstander van zaken zomaar verbieden maar er zijn uitzonderingen. Nutteloze ergerniswekkende, stinkende, herrie makende bodemvernielers zou je toch een keer moeten kunnen verbieden.

    @helma Ik meen ooit eens te hebben opgemeten dat mijn 'oprit' zo'n 300 m2 is... Grind 😬 . Dat kun je dus niet fatsoenlijk bezemen of harken. En al kón het met veel moeite, dan nóg heb ik wel wat beters en leukers te doen dan wekelijks vele, vele uren handmatig harken, grasmaaien, kanten knippen, hagen snoeien, kastanjes rapen, etc etc. Mensen moeten imo eens wat meer leren zich met zichzelf te bemoeien en niet te willen bepalen hoe anderen hun huis/tuin/leven kiezen in te richten.

    @helma Yep, alles tijdens kantooruren, op elektrieke wijze, en op windstroom (🙃). De buren hebben sowieso niets te klagen (het zijn hun bomen overigens, die hun biomassa in mijn tuin droppen), want zij doen alles (nog) ouderwetsch met luidruchtige benzinemotoren. Klaag ik niet over, want hoort erbij (itt kloterig asociale bluetooth-speakers met wansmaak-muziek in de tuin).

    Correctie: m'n haag gaat nog op benzine. Maar da's 1x per jaar...
