Been on this planet for a bit now; still trying to figure it out.

What keeps me informed, amused, or up at night: climate and the environment, news, media and journalism, human evolution and ancient history, politics, wildlife, photography, cycling, piano, guitar, español, français. Oh, and a sucker for bad puns.

The Ottawan has better local coverage summaries than CBC and the corporate media, which we'll call 2 financial services companies in a trenchcoat.

It has an RSS feed too.

I tried plugging the url into my rss reader but it wasn’t recognized. Do you have a specific rss url for it? Thanks.

One of the scary things about is that his political posture all bolls down to attacking the enemy, Trudeau. When he defeats Trudeau, he will need new enemies to focus his venom (and that of his base) on. Otherwise the whole ediface comes tumbling down. Who will the mortal enemy be? How dangerous will it be to not be a straight white climate change denier?

That weird time of year between March 15 and March 21 when we don’t know whether to watch our back, wear green, or dance around a henge somewhere.

The Andy Ngo targeted harassment continues. Certainly not the first time I've faced this sort of thing, but the first time in a while.

And I'm struck by how different it is now that I'm finally, fully in a place of just being able to say, yeah, these people are not in a redeemable place.

Why isn’t Exxon (and Chevron and the rest) leading the charge to renewable energy? Because the sun and the wind deliver the energy for free, and all you need is some equipment to turn it into electrons. But Exxon controls the molecules—that’s what oil and gas reserves are. And that control means they can make outsize profits—as long as they can persuade the world to keep burning stuff.

The SCOTUS didn’t “get it wrong”; they delivered exactly what was paid for. They are basically an order fulfilment organization now. It won’t surprise me in the least if they provide Trump the immunity that he is demanding. I think the only people who will be surprised are those who think that the US still has the rule of law in effect.

jd,
@jd@mstdn.ca avatar

@Jgmeadows
I hold out hope that, surely, surely, they’ll do the right thing on immunity. Ever the dewy-eyed optimist.
