Morning Mastodonians!

I had one of my quietest mornings ever between the pipes this morning but a few unfortunate bounces led to a 3-2 loss. Bounces off skates, crossbars, and even my D's stick led to 3 early goals. But they skated hard in front of me and I probably faced another 10 shots max the rest of the morning. We managed 2 goals but couldn't get the tying one across. 15 skaters is probably my least favorite number. The season is winding down with a whimper. 2 more skates.

Serious Sam 4's Chapter 8, Machina Ex Deus (ha ha), is really kicking 4 Guys Co-op around. We did make it to the boss both times we played last night, but without enough extra lives to take it down. Two parts of the level are just completely insane. The first part is where waves of kleers come at you and then attack drones are added in seriously deranged numbers. Then we are locked in a field, where waves of kamikazes and gnarrs are followed by a werebulls and robots.

Not much planned for #Today. I already took the dogs out for #walkies, as the rain is moving in. I didn't take them yesterday despite the glorious weather and I felt bad, so I wanted to make sure we made it out today. For #DateNight, we'll either do the local tequila bar (a really great place to go) or try another Chinese joint. Still looking for a replacement for Fuloon, which had great scorpion bowls and transcendent Hunan dishes. Places we've tried have one or the other.

My sister and her whole fam damily are coming on Saturday for a day. It means 6-10 players, which isn't very easy to plan for. We'll break out the stalwarts - Survive: Escape from Atlantis!, 6 Nimmt (Take 5), and Wits & Wagers. I'm picking up Green Team Wins, which looks pretty neat. I'd love to break out something heavier, like Cutthroat Caverns, Avalon, or 7 Wonders, but we never seem to get to those. But we have lots of house cleaning to do before that happens!

The neighbor rang the doorbell. I had left the keys hanging in the lock of my front door. 🤦🤦

@KissAnne @adrienne and I spent about 15 minutes looking for the keys to the house where she was dog-sitting. Yup - still in the lock of the front door!

I’m in the middle of listening to a call-in radio show from the mid-1960s. (I can’t yet reveal more specifics.)

Let me reassure anyone who worries about today’s state of discourse that interpersonal attacks, topic-hijacking, and political and personality partisanship are not new phenomena.

At least the host and guest are doing an admirable job eventually steering the discussion back into focus. It’s hard for me to sit through, though.

@mjgardner Right! All you have to do is read Maddow's new book Prequel or listen to the podcast Slow Burn about Watergate and you'll realize 30%-40% of the US population is crazy

Morning Mastodonians!

I had some seriously bad puck luck this morning. At least 4 of the goals scored on me deflected off a skater on the way in, including my defense twice. I still should have been more aggressive in my crease. I was too deep and didn't have time to make the stop after the deflection. But other than that, I felt okay. Still a bit stiff and sore in the left knee, and just stiff in the right knee. I've never been a "bad knee" guy but it's another downside to getting older.

A few cat foster stories for today. I have the cutest kitten spending the day here, awaiting his forever home pickup. Part Bengal, soft and furry, with a most adorable squeaky meow. His previous adopter couldn't keep him due to allergies. I'm letting him wander downstairs until then. And I delivered a feral to Brian. It was caught last night and Brian will figure out what to do with it.

Not much else planned for or even the weekend. Not sure what of the myriad timewasters I've added to my life I will get involved with tonight. I should probably just finish Poor Things and get it over with. I have most of the other 2024 Best Picture nominees available, so maybe I could knock another one off the list, even if they are too long (Flower Moon) or boring (Maestro). I want to watch The Zone of Interest. I think it is coming to free streaming soon.

Morning Mastodonians!

Very busy days. I went to on Thu and Fri. Despite not liking crowds, lines, meeting new people, or competitive gaming, I had fun. Played a bunch of new games with a couple of friends, hung out with @adrienne, and bought just 2 games. One was a used copy of The 7th Continent, so not bad. The other, however, was a 20lb monster of a game at an "end of show" price. Divinity Original Sin The Boardgame is exactly something I didn't need! @boardgames

We didn't play Serious Sam 4 last night at 4 Guys Co-op. M was too couchbound to come over and I wasn't feeling it anyway. I plopped myself down on the couch and played some on the . I installed Gears 5 thinking we could play 3-player local co-op if he came over. I also checked out Far Cry 6 - a pretty impressive start. And then I played some Starfield but I give up. Inventory management is awful and it has too many things going on without any focus or depth.

The dogs & I went for a nice long walk yesterday. It was nice weather. I didn't even have to wear gloves and I took my knit cap off. We walked along a busy road and Obi was fine, except for the short part where there is no sidewalk. He gets very jumpy when cars are that close. We went to the gas station and bought Powerball and Megabucks tickets. Phineas even remembered they get a treat when we go in, which is funny because we haven't been in months. I need to check to see if I'm a billionaire!

Morning Mastodonians!

Felt marginally better at hockey this morning. I think I at least played a little better than the last night - ugh, what an ugly game. I was feeling pretty good until I gave up 3 quick goals. We did come back to win by one, so I can't complain. And I didn't think much about my knee and it doesn't seem to be affecting my play at all, at least physically. Still need to get more mentally sharp though. Amazing how much I lose when I miss a few skates.

jda,
@jda@social.sdf.org avatar

Not much else is planned for . Phineas overdid it at the dog park on Sunday, which left him with kind of torn-up paws (it's a rocky surface). So he is wearing the "cone of shame" to keep him from licking his paws and yeah, he isn't happy. But even if the weather cooperates, I can't take him for a walk. I could, I suppose, just take Obi but I would feel very badly. Maybe I'll try to finish Poor Things at lunch. I wasn't super impressed with the first hour, but I'll endeavor to persevere.

Tonight, C and I will take on a room full of baddies in . We peeked before we quit last week and there are probably a dozen monsters in there. Perhaps we will finally find out what happens when your entire party gets wiped out! C, M, and I played Maracaibo on BGA and it didn't go over very well. We are now trying 3,000 Scoundrels, a new one from Corey Konieczka. It seems like it would be fun in person, or even online, but it loses a lot playing asynchronously. @boardgames

Busted..

Via david.heath.writer on Threads:

Journalist Jonathan Katz fact checked Katie Britt’s horrific rape story from her over-the-top rebuttal.
Despite all the drama, it turns out to be a story that happened 20 years ago - and not in the U.S. but in Mexico. It’s a story that was recounted in Congressional testimony in 2015.

Katie lied when she blamed this on Joe ’s border policies and when she said it happened in the U.S.

No #boardgames tonight, unfortunately. This is the 3rd time they've canceled! Oh well. I'm an easy mark when it comes to boardgames.

I think @adrienne and I will watch an Oscar-contending movie. I'm pushing for Oppenheimer. She'll probably pick Flower Moon. It could get uncomfortable if we try Poor Things, right? #movies @movies
