Morning Mastodonians!

I didn't get as much done this weekend as I had hoped. I did a pretty good job of cleaning out the gardens, but I never made it to the mulching. The weather was perfect all weekend but my knees are still bothering me. It's like they are someone else's knees. If I do too much, they start hurting and if I just stay off them for a bit, they feel better. Maybe I should get it looked at but I feel like they'll just say to do what I'm doing - ibuprofen, ice, and stay off them.

So Oppenheimer was pretty good. It lost steam in the last third, as I wasn't really all that interested in the weird power politics going on (although RDJ was great), but the lead-up to the test explosive was fascinating. All in all, another good but flawed in the 2024 grouping. Only 4 more left to see.

I finally finished Poor Things and, wouldn't you know, it grew on me. Or maybe it was just Emma Stone's amazing acting that finally reached me. There were some funny moments, some great cinematography (particularly when she and Max were walking down the lane and it showed each with the background leaves and tree kaleidoscope blurry), and even some touching moments.

It still tried too hard though. Not a big fan of movies that have an over the top look (like say The Shape of Water). And the whole brothel section was too voyeuristic and overlong for me. But I kinda liked it, which I wouldn't have believed aftwe the first 30 minutes.

@OldAndCranky @movies he did chew some scenery, didn't he?! 😺 I liked the ship scenes with Jerrod Carmichael and Hanna Schygulla (I think) because she was finally starting to become a person and not a thing

Morning Mastodonians!

Had a pretty quiet weekend, as I tried to stay off my wicked sore knees. Saturday was particularly awful, but they do seem to be ever so slowly getting better. I stayed in bed, took ibuprofen, kept them both iced down and played on my ROG Ally. It plays very well on the little Z1. Amazing how they have kept the game relevant and getting better, after all these years. It is getting a little grindy, but I should probably push off my start planet and get exploring.

has already been very busy and will only get busier. I drove my wife to work and took a foster kitty to the vets. Later, I'll meet some ex-coworkers for lunch about an hour away and hopefully pick up my wife on the way home. And then I will need to rest up for the playoff game tonight. They looked really good on Saturday night. I really hope Coach Montgomery learned his lesson from last year and just sticks with the goalie rotation.

Morning Mastodonians!

Well, I'll complain one more time and then you're done hearing about it until the end of July - my knees are killing me, and playing goal this morning was incredibly painful, probably the worst since before my hip replacement. I wasn't sure I could even put on my goalie pads. My non-twisted right knee hurt the most. Wonder if that's because I've been favoring my left knee? Luckily, my team spent most of the time in the other end. I still gave up 6 goals and we lost, 6-4.

I think I just need to stay off them for a bit. I'm sorry doggos, but this means no long walks in the Fells for a few days. I probably should ice them both. I didn't realize they were doing so poorly, so for the rest of #today, I'll take it easy. If A will let me have the big screen TV, I'll just to get back to my #Oscars movie watching. I really want to see Anatomy of a Fall and American Fiction, although I suppose I should force myself to finish Poor Things. #movies @movies

What kind of high-school experience did you have? Were you in a clique? Were you popular, unpopular, the coolest kid in your Homeschool? Did you have a sweet jean jacket with patches, or maybe a leather vest? Were you an evil villain or a Mary Sue?

jda,
@jda@social.sdf.org avatar

@RickiTarr I had a pretty great high school experience, honestly. A tiny high school in NH (graduating class of about 60), I was involved in sports, theater, and the class vice-president. I was just good enough to cross most of the cliques, from nerd to jock. I ran out of courses to take(!), so I had "independent study" chemistry and history as a senior. Killed me in college, though, because it was way too easy.

It was a good, spirited hockey game this morning, even if we only had 15 skaters, which is my least favorite number. I consider 16 skaters the bare minimum, as it means no one has to triple shift. After we went ahead 2-0, they scored 4 on me, mostly through screens but still were annoying, as they went 5-hole, which I feel like I should never give up. We got a late goal, but never tied them up. Still, a pretty good workout for the penultimate skate.

was really funny last weekend. You should check out some of the skits. Ryan Gosling was the host and it is always extra funny when the actors keep cracking up. The alien abduction sketch, a sequel to the one from the last time Gosling was host, had the ever-brilliant Kate McKinnon in it. The gag song, featuring musical guest Chris Stapleton, was a riot. Even Caitlin Clark got in on the laughs, as she came out for Weekend Update to harass Che on his women's basketball jokes.

It looks like great weather again but I have some errands to run, so I am not sure I'll be able to take the for . It has become such a regular thing that they get all antsy come lunchtime, following me around and whining like I will forget. But I need to get more mulch and a few other things and I just don't have much extra time. Tonight, C & I will play but I need to get to bed early, so maybe just one room as usual.

Not really what I needed but I just added about 10 books to my ginormous Want to Read pile, courtesy of The Fantasy Review site. I'm such a sucker for book lists.

** IT’S HERE! FRIDAY NIGHT MUSIC THREAD ON **

Tonight’s theme is:

☁️🪩 PARTY TIME, EXCELLENT!🍸🤍

🎵 Post songs you’d play if you were throwing a party along with what you’re drinking 🎶

A goddess on a mountain top
Was burning like a silver flame
The summit of beauty and love
And Venus was her name
She's got it
Yeah, baby she's got it
I’m your Venus
I'm your fire, at your desire

@flexghost My first thought is Relax:

And I'm drinking a gin & sonic with a splash of creme de cassis, which I call a Royale gin & sonic (sonic is 50% tonic water and 50% seltzer). I'm going strong tonigh with Bombay Sapphire, which is usually too strong for us, so we stick with regular Bombay. But hey, it's been a long week.

jda,
@jda@social.sdf.org avatar

@flexghost And then I would go to a song we can all sing along, with parts for both the boys and the girls. I have sung my (terrible voice) heart out many times to this Meatloaf song:

@flexghost sometimes ya just can't shake your bedrock songs. Although I was able to remove Cat Stevens from all my playlists

@flexghost And then a song that has been coming up a lot on my "Liked" playlist. Both the original by Katrina and the Waves:

And the amazing cover by The Dollyrots:

Morning Mastodonians!

I had one of my quietest mornings ever between the pipes this morning but a few unfortunate bounces led to a 3-2 loss. Bounces off skates, crossbars, and even my D's stick led to 3 early goals. But they skated hard in front of me and I probably faced another 10 shots max the rest of the morning. We managed 2 goals but couldn't get the tying one across. 15 skaters is probably my least favorite number. The season is winding down with a whimper. 2 more skates.

We had an excellent #DateNight last night, trying a new Chinese place. They made a good scorpion bowl and the Hunan dishes were spicy and delish. Fish, chicken, and pork belly were all excellent. We will be back. The only downer was when the guy sitting next to G at the bar proudly proclaimed himself a T**mp man. Well, G jumped on him, asking him how he liked the great economy and the record stock market. He mumbled something about not following it and then moved to the other end of the bar!

A blustery rainy day . We'll get some cleaning started but I canceled out of day tomorrow with my sister and clan. @adrienne hasn't been feeling all that well and I'm just not feeling up to it myself. I would rather just putter about tomorrow, trying to get the house in order. We finally finished replacing all the carpet with flooring, so it's time to put everything back or, even better, throw it away.

Serious Sam 4's Chapter 8, Machina Ex Deus (ha ha), is really kicking 4 Guys Co-op around. We did make it to the boss both times we played last night, but without enough extra lives to take it down. Two parts of the level are just completely insane. The first part is where waves of kleers come at you and then attack drones are added in seriously deranged numbers. Then we are locked in a field, where waves of kamikazes and gnarrs are followed by a werebulls and robots.
