  • jgrphoto,

    Awesome concept and execution!
This really belongs in a gallery

Another image from Rotsidan, this time just the ice-caked shoreline with a better view of the texture of the ice.

Recently it has been so cold here that even the sea froze… with the very low winter-sun that added to a very special and magical coastal atmosphere that is still in my mind two weeks later.

    jgrphoto,

Yeah, I agree! Both low sun and winter are really great, but together they add to each other.
The picture was taken at noon, but the light is more like late afternoon and has this comforting warm glow

Usually when there is high solar activity there are also a lot of clouds above me… but not tonight!
This is just the beginning, I am very much looking forward to the rest of the night…

At last the conditions were right again for some aurora-action and it did not disappoint… even with the naked eye the green was visible.

It is finally snowing again here and this time it may stay for a while, at least according to the weather forecast.
To honour the occasion here is another image from last week’s photo trip…

Winter is approaching fast, but traces of autumn still remain, and this image that I took at the end of October captures, in my eyes, the turning point of the seasons. Bright autumn colours, enhanced by sunrise, dominate the scene, but hidden in the depths of the image are the first hints of snow. Soon after the colours vanished and white took over (at least for a day)

    jgrphoto, to photography

Since last night’s very high solar activity with awesome probability of seeing the aurora at my home got completely annihilated by not only thick clouds but fog as well, I had to opt for more classical autumn-scenes…
Not quite as spectacular as dancing lights in the sky, but still pretty in it’s own right.

    jgrphoto,

I love weather-conditions like this, everything looks and feels different, even when it usually is very familiar

Here is the first of my photos from the recent snowfall.
There is a hill/mountain near me from where one has an awesome view over the region. Getting up there was not easy because of all the snow, but it was worth it.

Right now it is raining heavily and the snow is melting fast, so all that remains from the beautiful snow covered landscape are memories and photographs…
Luckily winter is only just beginning and there will be a lot more snow to come…

I don’t usually use smartphone-images on my channel, but being out in the woods right now is so beautiful, I just have to share it.
Yesterday it snowed quite a bit here (around 30 cm) and since it will be gone again by the weekend, I can’t take too long to enjoy it…

    jgrphoto,

Unfortunately it will be gone again by Saturday at the latest ☹️
But winter will be long enough, so I don’t have to be too sad

After having to wait a long time to see another moose this guy made more than up for the delay!
I wasn’t even out and about but sitting in my living room when I spotted this moose swimming through the fjärd (Swedish for fjord) in front of my house.
Even though the conditions were not ideal for shooting handheld with a very long lens, I am still quite happy that I was able to capture this moment.

A view of a fjord surrounded by forests. In the background are two buildings and in the foreground is a swimming moose
A moose climbing out of the water and onto an eroded shoreline

Another image from the enchanted little stream.
I could have spent days at that location and wouldn’t have been able to capture all the interesting angles and little details…

Around the house where the lived for the first few months in Sweden were a lot of little streams. Some of them run through old, mossy, enchanted looking woods where one could spend ages and not stop wondering…

(and also not stop wondering how many mosquitoes it takes to suck a grown man dry)

Here is one of the earlier images from my aurora-session last week…
The location was better, but the aurora less intense.
To the naked eye the sky was just hazy and not bright green like in the picture, unlike two hours later when it got strong enough to trigger colour-vision in the eye.

I recently moved and therefore did not have nearly enough time for photography as I liked, but now that I am settled in I can go exploring once more and also have the time to edit and share the images afterwards.

This aurora image is from last week when I went for a shot trip to the mountains. Unfortunately the aurora peaked after my friend and I came back from our pre-scouted aurora-spot half frozen and were just enjoying the cottages sauna to warm up again. Fortunately we are not ones who let circumstances get in the way of our goals and so we got the gear out and took photos in the middle of the road… dressed only with a towel…

Last night I once again was sort of lucky with the northern lights… they were weak and partly covered by hazy clouds, but at least through the camera they gave the sky an interesting look…

    jgrphoto, to photography

Not quite so brightly coloured as the mountain-side during golden hour, but I really liked the colours of this birch-forest nonetheless.

Another aurora image from two nights ago. At first the cloud bothered me, but the longer I looked at the image, the more I started to think it adds something to the image.

    jgrphoto, to photography

After seven long years I finally got to see (and this time also properly photograph) an aurora.
This was taken last night in the Marsfjället nature reserve

Came across this female Red-Breasted Meganser and it’s young a few days ago. There were actually nine chicks around, but this one did not want to play around with the others and instead cuddled with it’s mother who was keeping a close eye on her kids and the weird guy with the big tube in front of his face…

I came across this beautiful Black Throated Diver while trying out trout-fishing. It was a bit vary of me and didn’t come as close as I liked, but fortunately still close enough for a decent shot.
A few days later it (or one of it‘s group) came really close, but I unfortunately didn’t have my camera with me then.
First time I got pictures but no fish, second time fish and no pictures, so it evens out in the end.

    Swedish Forest

Woodlands like that are my main area of exploration for the next few month… no grand landscapes (at least not around the corner), but instead lots of small details and things to discover. Looking forward to all the hidden gems lurking in there.
