Watching Linux distros (and yes, it is usually Debian packagers who act the most sanctimonious) shoot themselves in the face and then insult upstream AND the users of a popular package under the delusion that only the distro's self-declared experts are capable of making decisions is always a good reminder as to why you will never be able to waterboard me into using Linux as my primary desktop.     I was thinking about how I used to go backpacking with my mum and she was always adventurous and fun. One time we went to Chiang Rai together, she hung out with so many hippies and then when I was going to France shortly after she was like ‘oh I got their email you should email them’ and then I ended up staying in France with random people my mum talked to.

    It tickles me that not everyone’s mums are like that

    What people forget about Luddites isn’t that they protest technology, it’s that they were protesting factory owners who used technology to create shoddy products while oppressing labor.

    Editing to say: Whenever I hear someone say Luddites in a derogatory way, especially about , I try to offer them links about this and am surprised when some people still take an anti-Luddites stance

    Some days I think about how circumstances and geography, usually things we don’t have a say in, are so important to our life outcomes, even if objectively you may think you’re the same person.

    The person I am here in San Francisco: married, cis queer lady with strong feelings about / against transphobia, homophobia, evangelical Christianity, is absolutely default, and acceptable.

    That same version of me back ‘home’ is a militant.

    @skinnylatte I did not know this about Singapore.

    Having been on my own decades-long exvangelical journey, I'm curious - does that fact that you 'escaped' make you more or less understanding of those who have not, and haven't really tried? Speaking for myself, I'm a lot less sympathetic. I've always thought that if I'm willing to do the work, then so can they. I begrudge their stasis.
