Request for help: how do I learn Mac software development?

Iโ€™m looking for is a list of the best resources. Including but not limited to:

  • YouTube channels.
  • Courses, paid included.
  • Blogs or other personal sites that will tell me what to do.
  • Podcasts? Though I donโ€™t see audio as the ideal medium here.

Whoโ€™s the Wes Bos of Swift? Who will mainline me information as fast as I can absorb it?

There aren't enough corned beef recipes. It's basically just corned beef and cabbage, corned beef hash, reubens or make it into pastrami

johnnydecimal,
@johnnydecimal@hachyderm.io avatar

@MLE_online Corned beef pie! Been making this since I was a kid. Well, mam made it when I was a kid then I grew up then I made it.

  1. For a ~12โ€ wide ~1โ€ deep pie pan.
  2. Boil 3 large potatoes.
  3. Chop a medium onion. Do half quite fine, the other half a bit chunkier.
  4. Blind-bake puff pastry on your pie base.
  5. When spuds are boiled, drain, add chopped onion, tin of corned beef, good helping of fresh ground pepper.
  6. Top with puff pastry.
  7. Bake, ~180C for about half an hour.

Best cold.

@robb Son-of-a-gun. That's brilliant.

My mate Kristy met a bloke and they had a baby and they didn't love either of their surnames. The combinations just didn't work for either of them.

So they just changed them. To 'Wildโ€™. Because they wanted to.

Hopefully quick CSS question:

If you declare layers in one stylesheet, do you have to have the styles associated with those layers within or imported into the same stylesheet, or can they exist in completely different files, as long as they're all linked into the same html via the head?

Thank you!

johnnydecimal,
@johnnydecimal@hachyderm.io avatar

@sarajw @mrtrimble Argh, how did I not even know about layers until now? Super glad I read this before tearing out all my CSS and re-writing it, which I 100% need to do because itโ€™s a shambles.

Well, mod: thank you. I appreciate your efforts. And Iโ€™m sorry. ๐Ÿซถ

If you've gone from a 5-day work week to a 4-day work week I'd like to hear of your experience as I'm considering the same.

Did you have take a pay cut?
Do you work 5 days over 4?

How has it benefitted you?
How has it benefitted your employer?

(please boost)

johnnydecimal,
@johnnydecimal@hachyderm.io avatar

@dcbuchan I did this at my last gig before quitting to be JD.

Started in the Covid year, I think. I just realised, screw this, I donโ€™t want to work 5 days. I was a contractor and my boss was really supportive so it was an easy calculus: now I just earn 80% of what I did.

Itโ€™s life changing. No exaggeration.

I didnโ€™t work Monday. Recommended. Donโ€™t do mid-week; now youโ€™re just waiting for the week to end twice. And donโ€™t do Friday; itโ€™s already a cruisy day, why take it off? ;-)

1/2

johnnydecimal,
@johnnydecimal@hachyderm.io avatar

@dcbuchan The change in mental state was extraordinary.

My job was pretty stressful, and I took it really seriously. I found my weekends far more relaxing knowing that they were 3 days long. We tend to do chores on Saturday, leaving Sunday as the only really โ€˜relaxingโ€™ day. Knowing that you have two of those is amazing.

And then the work week zips by. Before you know it, itโ€™s over. Thereโ€™s rarely time for that dip in energy to kick in.

My work output was no different. 100% recommend.

@kev @keenan Has nobody written a (could be web-only) RSS โ€˜viewerโ€™ but really all it does is gather the sites you like, so you donโ€™t have to remember them all, and it knows when thereโ€™s a new thing published but then it takes you there, and you can set it to expire articles or whatever so thereโ€™s none of that FOMO pressure. Maybe thereโ€™s not even an โ€˜unreadโ€™ list as such?

Feels like something that I should mention to @robb because then itโ€™ll be finished by Wednesday week.

Bedeutet 'aufgeregt' 'excited'?

Also, mit positiv oder negativ Bedeutung?

In English 'excited' usually means a positive thing - like, happy-excited.

I find the German 'aufgeregt' and 'gespannt' confusing - they're sort of neutral, or are they? Do I have to qualify in a sentence whether I'm happy or stressed-out/unhappy when using them, or is it all contextual?

johnnydecimal,
@johnnydecimal@hachyderm.io avatar

@sarajw @marcus This sounds like the Australian โ€œyeah, nahโ€.
