Least Sandpipers, Kingsport Beach, NS
For bird lovers, here is a blast from the past remembering warm sunny days in August on the beach at Kingsport, Nova Scotia, watching the shorebirds going about their business. We love walking on the beach, watching many small flocks of these little shorebirds forage for food or swooping and dipping over the water. When... Read the full post here:

Happy if you're into that sort of thing?

When it looks like fluffy snow, it's not.

I will continue today, to reduce roof weight where possible. There's just too much snow to get around the back.

So, we're fine, but I'm lucky we can drive for groceries. Most people east of here, can't get to their cars.

COVID Update for January 24, 2024: Risks Declining, but They Are Not Low (1/7🧵 )

risks have declined, but they are not low yet. According to wastewater data, COVID risks have declined one-third in the past three weeks. They are, however, 5x higher than our 2023 lower point last June. The trend should continue, and the risks of crowded public spaces should be much lower by mid-February. Until then, please consider some small changes in behavior or precautions. https://biobot.io/data/

"If you have the urge, don't be afraid to go on a wild goose chase. What do you think wild geese are for anyway?". Will Rogers

Is there a sight (or a sound) more indicative of autumn and the approach of winter, than Canada Geese migrating south?

The sound of honking and gabbling grabbed my attention as I walked along the trail on a mid-October morning. Looking up, I spotted not one but three flocks of Canada Geese flying.

@_ohcoco_ I absolutely love the sounds of the geese overhead. Like you...I always stop to watch and admire!

I heard that Sugar was up in price. OMG! I usually grab it when we don't need it, if it's $2-3 per bag..
READY?
It's $12.99 TWELVE NINETY NINE! I've lost my sweet tooth already. My wife better stop her Christmas baking now, we can't afford it !

The walls and sally port of Fort Anne National Historic Site in Annapolis Royal Nova Scotia. The trees are bare of leaves and there is a feeling of solitude in the first snow of the season https://fineartamerica.com/featured/winters-watch-karen-cook.html?newartwork=true

@Rasta Thanks . AR is stunning no matter what the season. What I like is the fact there are no tourists there at that time of year to get in my shot, lol Here is another one...

@Rasta I don't like winter but for some reason I HATE November more...so dreary and gray. At least sometimes the snow is pretty. Like you...I hate driving in winter. Thankfully my husband is an excellent driver..

@Rasta So true! We know how we drive..but others..mmm...not so much.

Fixed: it was
Turned it off, then on again and all is well again. But no, I have to leave it off.
It only affected Mastodon, oddly.

media cannot be loaded load media remotely

I can't see images on mastodon today. it seems to be across servers. Tusky and Fedilab show the above message, (see the first screenshot). Media sometimes won't load when I tap on Load Media Remotely .
The Mastodon default app shows no text, just the blurry shape you see in the second screenshot.

@karencookphotos@mastodon.social avatar

@EllieK I see everything on Mastodon as usual. No issues.

Mr Sun isn't supposed to set his clock back?

I didn't set mine back either, and that further messed me up.

A movie came on after midnight but didn't end until 4am. I just dozed off and suddenly the TV came on? FN Dr. Ho!

So I'm dressed and working long ago, I just wanted to post the sunrise.. hours away..

...and in the distance, a cat is coughing up his breakfast...

How's your starting?

karencookphotos,

@Rasta A lot quieter than yours, lol. But the kitchen is torn apart...having a new backsplash installed. That will be finished today and then all will need to be put back to rights.

My neighbour bought an old house. The hurricane took the power mast down, & Nova Scotia Power would not reconnect without electrician & new wiring. He's been without power for 3 months, it's getting cooler, electrical setup was $4000, & ready two weeks.
NSPower didn't show for Friday installation and left him hanging for the weekend.
He has no phone, no cellular service here.,NSP performance standards list 3 day target, 4.6 day max. They had weeks. I'm reporting this to regulators, UARBNS.

@Rasta outrageous. We have friends on the south shore who lost their landline (Bell aliant) in TS Lee...a month ago. Still haven't got that service back.

Let's pretend we're all starting our day?

I didn't sleep. It's 90 mins to daylight : Can't sleep then.

I watched late news & TV until after 1am, woke at 2am for a pee, & a gas bubble made me puke. (lovely)

When I crawled back in bed, I found our sickly cat, out of her kennel, had pooped in our bedroom.
Two other cats had been quietly fighting under the bed for hours. Teddy was scratching window glass.
I just stayed up, it's brutal.
I've been cleaning poop.
I'm tired!

a video of moving clouds, and fog over the early morning ocean, producing waves of haze across the ocean and horizon. The text GOOD MORNING pops up in the video

karencookphotos,
@karencookphotos@mastodon.social avatar

@Rasta @bruceg It all started when I became my mother's main caregiver. I needed that 'me' time before the rest of the household got up. Now years later, it is habit. Can't 'not' get up early. I love the peace of the early morning.
