We're Looking for fiscal sponsorship for Black Python Devs.

If you know a non-profit that would love to host funding for the fastest growing community of Black, Colored, and Coloured Pythonistas on the planet.

TLDR: We’d like to collect matchable funding and would like to not make our own Non-Profit.

@ThePSF and @opencollective's community sponsorships are currently paused.

Other orgs all seem to be too narrow or too broad in scope to support a GLOBAL community of PYTHON developers

So… I started this Discord community called Black Python Devs. We are doing our first meetup. This isn't an invite thread as the event is for Black Python Devs to feel they have a space where they can relax and learn and connect and grow. I kinda wanted to show off that we're here and if folks like me want to be a part of something like that hit me up.

Been hearing from a lot of folks that asked for financial assistance for #PyCon that they only got online passes.

They also mention that asking for more funds could make them lose the funding they were originally allotted.

@ThePSF can there be some transparency on how decisions for funding are made? Especially since the conversation is usually “There’s money left over!”

Would love to have more information to share with those asking me.

When your code is complex and you need to rewrite it, where do you start? I would think documentation and tests.

@ryancheley talked about conversations to yourself via issues. my brain feels weird talking out loud and I don’t think the UI on GitHub issues agrees with me.

Been thinking about Bike but that’s very internal in the other direction. Also thinking more and more about GH discussions. I would love to have those integrate with Projects. Maybe they do and I’m missing something.

I for one am working on trying to put things in place that will attract contributors (and maybe even a user or two) and I feel like I'm missing a lot but also lacking so much of this thing people are calling time….

I've been more and more impress by how they've been working to improve their ML and AI tools for Black folks.

Something that really excites me is that as I find more black professionals... They been here.

We need to stop assuming all the Black folks in tech are just getting started.

I think this is a symptom of people not being put out in the spotlight. My theory is that we tend to be a little more cautious in fear that we’ll be called out if we don't know things.

I hope we can create environments that are a great space for Black devs of all skill levels (also Black Python Devs is trying to do that)
