#Boston - Weekend events thread: Memorial Day 2024 Edition. There's a ton going on around town, but what's on your radar, #NewEngland?
Friday's going to be hot again in the mid 80s, but Saturday and Sunday should be cooler/cloudier in the mid-upper 70s. Memorial Day Monday might have rainy afternoon cookouts, in the upper 60s.
(Promote this weekend's events with #BostonWeekend to play along 1/?)
Slut Trek - ASSimilation: A Live Action Love Letter to #StarTrek
Saturday and Sunday, doors 7pm, show @ 8, #SomervilleMA
Sliding scale admission, GA $25+, Sunday front row tickets still avail ($35+)
Dear reader, if you've found this or past #Boston weekend threads useful, holler - especially if you end up at one of these events.
I curate these weekly threads, exclusively here for the fediverse. I'd like this subset of the fedi to grow beyond ~12 bostonians shouting about how much we love bikes.
Boosts, sharing local-ish events you're interested in, and tagging posts with #BostonWeekend help to that end, and likes just make me feel seen (which keeps me motivated to spend time on this entirely non-commercial project).
#BostonWeekend - its the Cambridge-Somerville #Asian Festival 2024 - Friday evening with a film screening, dumpling making demo, kid friendly art activities, and food tasting Friday evening in #CambridgeMA and Saturday afternoon more food and dance in #SomervlleMA, culminating in a parade and #Holi color-throwing. Note that Saturday, #Porchfest is concurrent, expect crowds to impact travel. https://sites.google.com/view/csaf2024 (2/?)
Using the dryer rather than...just hanging things up is a not-eco-friendly American addiction, and I appreciate a well-built drying rack.
I saw a house in St Johnsbury, #Vermont with 4x of these wall mounted rotary clothes airers on their porches and thought they were a great idea, and finally found the right search terms today for a source.
#Boston - Should you see a lost cosplayer or otaku struggling with our #MBTA system, trying to get to #PAXEast con at 415 Summer St, approach with a soothing voice, saying 'hello comrade geek, the Silver Line is a bus, yet not a bus.'
If they're already at South Station, let them know that they could walk over Summer Street bridge in about the same time as it would take to figure out the Silver Line. The scenery is better, too. https://east.paxsite.com/
I dislike the part about firehose ephemeral social media where you see something, scroll away, and since infinite scroll is a thing or you otherwise navigate away - its ....gone, poof. And you might be able to re-find it if you're lucky, but Search is inconsistently applied.
Q: Are there any Mastodon apps/interfaces/forks that keep tabs on, like, your last 1000 posts seen (e.g. actually displayed on your viewer for more than .5 sec), maybe across the enhanced web interface? #AskFedi
@knizer Mastodon has a bookmark feature which I use to mark anything I might want to come back to again. I believe bookmarks are not public like favorites. Some clients make bookmarking easier than others.
@clive@knizer younger me once declared that life was short and I would only live near good pizza. 2024 me wants to live near some cool pinball machines.
