Fledgling trans girl that likes to talk nerdy, perform tech wizardry, do mad science, post occasional anti-capitalist and climate-rage induced rants, and show off her latest Lego builds. There will be selfies.

Swears like a sailor, so you best be okay with that.

My views are my own and are likely wrong.

I'm almost tempted to found a queer astronomy club.

But obviously, the most important thing I need to do first is come up with an excellent name for it 🤔

Suggestions welcome

My hunch is that in the future when engineers and scientists actually figure out how to build an AGI, they will look back at this period and laugh at everyone who thought ChatGPT was anywhere close to being truly intelligent

I'm getting a kick out of seeing someone refer to Precision Scheduled Railroading on a popular comedy show. Like, our railroads must be completely fucked if John Oliver is talking about them lol

The fact that I can only see the northern half of the sky from the mini deck off my apartment is really pissing me off.

I'm almost tempted to stick my telescope on the small bit of roof in front of my office room's second floor window, but I'm guessing that would make the management unhappy lol

I'm anti-war because the more I learn about history, the more it's clear that wars have a legacy that extends for decades or centuries beyond when they officially end.

And I don't mean only the lives lost.

The propaganda drives people insane and clouds their vision for decades. All of the things people "had" to do to "win" end up bringing about unintended and unanticipated consequences that never really disappear from society.

The madness incites more madness.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I have yet to see a use case for a LLM that I genuinely believe will make my life better in any meaningful way

Internet civility tip:

95% of shit people post was never intended by them to be an "argument". This isn't a debate club where you need to systematically dismantle every incorrect opinion that crosses your path.

Some people (me) get very annoyed when they're shooting the shit with their computer friends and some rando drops in to post a wall of text about how this minor thing you said in passing is wrong and here's why.

I don't care.

If I wanted to know, I'd ask.

I see stuff from @rooster, @Impossible_PhD, @Reborn_Cat_Mom, and @CordiallyChloe about their recent gender affirming procedures and there's a deep yearning to have the same things for myself... but I never do anything about it.

I think about it all the time but I never act on it. I don't know if it's like ADHD task paralysis or something else. There are times when I am so incredibly frustrated with myself about it.

Dear corporate America,

Stop pretending like anything of value gets accomplished on the week of Thanksgiving. Just give everyone the whole week off and be done with it.

Same goes for the final two weeks of the year. Absolutely nothing gets done between Christmas and New Year's Day. Everyone knows this. It's fine. Stop being cheap bastards and give us the time off.

Sincerely,
Every white collar worker in the United States of America

Woke up this morning to discover my imaging plan failed shortly after I went to sleep. I only got about an hour's worth of images 😫

Especially disappointing because it was a good capture for once. Maybe I'll have to shift to narrowband imaging, because it seems like my monochrome camera works better than the OSC.

It's not pretty, but it's only about 5 minutes of stacked data from Live mode. Hopefully I'll have a chance tonight to do real processing on the little data I got

The unspoken secret of work in America: most people don't get anything of value done after 3pm or on Fridays.

That's why companies that switch to 4 day or 30 hour work weeks don't see any drop in productivity.

40 hour work weeks are a joke.

I bought a random FPGA board off of AliExpress, I asked for the documentation from the seller, they sent me a link to Baidu, and now I want to jump off of a tall building because there's no way to get the files without a Baidu account and installing software

Facist ideology is basically the idea that there is a way the world ought to be, and our moral and civic duty is to bring that about, no matter the consequences. It says that there is a righteous destiny for society, and to deviate is evil.

Fighting fascism starts in your own mind. It is as simple as acknowledging reality for what it is, and accepting it without judgement. It means accepting that our shared destiny is not preordained or inevitable. It means recognizing our impact on others.

Fun fact: You can see someone's post, disagree with it or notice a flaw, and simply not comment on it. You are under no obligation to correct and enlighten people, or indeed interact with them at all. It's often not worth the effort.

One of the things I've been relearning since being diagnosed with is how to relax.

For people that struggle with executive dysfunction, relaxing doesn't just mean doing a "relaxing activity" or something enjoyable. We can't always unwind by reading a book or meditation or whatever.

We spend a lot of mental energy keeping our brain on a short leash to get things done. For us, relaxing means letting go of the self regulation and letting our brain run free for a bit.

A reminder to all my trans sisters who have just started HRT or are thinking about it:

Puberty for cis women can take as long as a decade, start to finish. Some changes happen almost immediately, but some changes can literally take years to fully express. It's not uncommon to gain a cup (or two) a year or two (or more) into it.

This isn't me saying to wait on top surgery or anything else. Absolutely do what you need to relieve dysphoria. This is just me stating a fact I still find fascinating.

If you have had an adult family member or friend that was recently diagnosed with a previously unknown developmental psychological disorder (ADHD, autism, etc), you might have noticed something that confused you. Right around the time they were diagnosed, maybe even a bit before, they "suddenly" began to exhibit symptoms when never had before. You might be like, "I've known this person for X years and they never behaved like this." You might even think they are "acting" or something.

To every person who's publicly and proudly transgender, queer, gay, lesbian, ace, poly, pan, bi, black, indigenous, a person of color, disabled, neurodivergent, plural, autistic, ADHD, etc:

Thank You

Visibility matters. Simply being yourself can impact the lives of others in ways you cannot even fathom. I would not have found myself if not for people like you :heart_pride:
