@malcircuit@thingy.social

Fledgling trans girl that likes to talk nerdy, perform tech wizardry, do mad science, post occasional anti-capitalist and climate-rage induced rants, and show off her latest Lego builds. There will be selfies.

Swears like a sailor, so you best be okay with that.

My views are my own and are likely wrong.

Internet civility tip:

95% of shit people post was never intended by them to be an "argument". This isn't a debate club where you need to systematically dismantle every incorrect opinion that crosses your path.

Some people (me) get very annoyed when they're shooting the shit with their computer friends and some rando drops in to post a wall of text about how this minor thing you said in passing is wrong and here's why.

I don't care.

If I wanted to know, I'd ask.

There are no consequences to just ignoring people online.

There are no consequences to blocking or muting people.

You are under no obligation to listen to anyone you don't want to.

Some people, opinions, and ideas are simply not worth engaging with, and that's fine.

Here's a question that shouldn't be too controversial here:

What Linux distribution should I install and why?

Please boost I'm super curious I'd love to learn what's out there now.

@malcircuit@thingy.social avatar

@rooster Not necessarily an endorsement, but I use Debian with XFCE as my laptop OS. Not as many bells and whistles, but that also means it's been more stable for me.

I use Ubuntu + XFCE at work. I'm not sure which I prefer, because there's so much overlap between Debian and Ubuntu.

I'm anti-war because the more I learn about history, the more it's clear that wars have a legacy that extends for decades or centuries beyond when they officially end.

And I don't mean only the lives lost.

The propaganda drives people insane and clouds their vision for decades. All of the things people "had" to do to "win" end up bringing about unintended and unanticipated consequences that never really disappear from society.

The madness incites more madness.

How about we start with trying to actually solve the material problems that compel people to violence?

Try to make a world where no person is suffering to such a degree that warfare is reasonable solution to their problems.

Let's start with:

Eliminating hunger and poverty, for everyone on the planet.

Stop massive wealth inequality.

Help people in need from natural and human-caused disasters, regardless of their culture or skin color.

Let's actually try that for once and see what happens

Out of my ADHD meds again, and brain's just like "nah" whenever I think about doing anything and I kind of want to take a nap. I hate this.

I've so deeply internalized the quasi-fundamental force of entropy that the idea that anything — especially anything natural — could be perfect and regular is absurd. There's noise, uncertainty, and messy imperfections literally everywhere. Nothing is exact. Nothing happens the same way everytime. Nothing can be perfectly categorized.

That's why engineering and science are fun and inspirational. If you're careful and patient enough, you can learn and build amazing things in spite of the chaos.

I'm at my mom's house and she turned on the news and HOLY FUCKING SHIT do I HATE commercials.

Also, the news is fucking garbage. Mass media is garbage.

Capitalism makes me me so fucking angry sometimes.

It's possible to hold two seemingly contradictory beliefs in your mind at the same time, or more realistically, to oscillate between the two.

I simultaneously believe everything is awesome and it's a great time to be alive, and also that everything is shit, it's only getting worse, and I was born at the worst possible time.

Fun fact: You can see someone's post, disagree with it or notice a flaw, and simply not comment on it. You are under no obligation to correct and enlighten people, or indeed interact with them at all. It's often not worth the effort.

There was a boy that dreamed of being a woman

Until one day he stopped dreaming and started living

She lived happily ever after

The unspoken secret of work in America: most people don't get anything of value done after 3pm or on Fridays.

That's why companies that switch to 4 day or 30 hour work weeks don't see any drop in productivity.

40 hour work weeks are a joke.

It's really kind of amazing and cool that sexual dimorphism in humans is controlled only by a few chemicals, and that it works at any age.

    Society: Crushes and traumatizes every trans person for years or decades of their life, leaving all of us with lifelong emotional and psychological challenges.

    Insurance: We will cover your surgery.

    Being trans means breathing and feeling the air fill your lungs for the first time. Crying your tears for the first time. Feeling your heart beat for the first time. You are whole in a way that you've never been before.

    And you chose that.

    Even with all the fear, the anxiety, the discomfort, the peril, the sacrifices....

    You saw all that and said 'yes'

    malcircuit,
    @malcircuit@thingy.social avatar

    Trans people miss out on a lot of experiences.

    But being trans means having a moment when you choose to truly live — to step into and inhabitant your body in way most people never experience.

    We are not like the phoenix; refreshed by fire. We breathe life into what had only been an artificial shell, born for the first time.

    "Survival is insufficient" should be a political motto

    malcircuit,
    @malcircuit@thingy.social avatar

    Keeping a fetus alive, without regard to the quality of life of person carrying it or the infant after birth is insufficient.

    Only having healthcare if you have a job is insufficient.

    Being alive as the wrong gender is insufficient.

    Having the right to vote is insufficient if not everyone's vote is counted equally and the only choices are corrupt.

    Having a place to sleep, food, and a few luxuries is insufficient if the world is burning around you.

    Doing the bare minimum is insufficient.

    malcircuit,
    @malcircuit@thingy.social avatar

    We need to emphasize that improving quality of life and agency are things we should care about as a society. People deserve more than simply "getting by"

    That being said, if you are an automotive/embedded systems offensive security expert (hacker) looking for a job, please get in touch.

    I don't want to mix business and pleasure, but I also don't want you to lose out on an opportunity if you are genuinely in need of a job.
