This would be a great deal for someone with need to build a garden bed, but the timeframes this person have in their post ("must be gone tomorrow", ie today) are RIDICULOUS (unless you live next door). Have you ever moved that much weight before?

Got garden weather?
39 and rain near Redmond WA this morning.

Mini greenhouse has several kinds of onions grown from seed and ready to transplant, some carrots, lettuce, and two bell pepper plants. Spinach and radishes have already been harvested and those areas will be replanted with carrots, radish and onions. I am curious if I can get Walla Walla onions to mature planting as late as May 1.

The pic with the raised bed has Davidor Shallots on the left and Walla Walla onions on the right. The Wallas were planted last fall and overwintered in the greenhouse. In the background are strawberries, garlic and early potatoes.

About those phone apps that display property lines...

Popular apps that display property lines include LandGlide, OnX, Regrid and various others. All they do is display a copy of the parcel line data maintain by the counties. If the county parcel line data is bad then the same bad data is displayed by these apps.

The pic below shows a map I recently made for client using the surveyed description on the client’s deed. The black lines show the parcel line data from the county GIS server.

If this property owner was using a cell phone app instead of a custom map then they would never find their corner stakes.

@ai6yr Ha! Back in the day when I invested in vacant recreational property I once found 3 back lots of a river front subdivision that the developer never sold. And they were never put on the tax roll. Each lot was several acres. I tracked the developer down and bought a deed for not very much, got them on the tax roll and sold them.

Got swallow?

The swallows are back. Yea! 🥳 🎉

Both tree swallows and barn swallows nest in our neighborhood. We can sit on our deck and watch them make a touch-and-go over a small pond in our pasture to get a drink. Also, the barn swallows land in our garden to get dirt for their nest. Best part of all - very few mosquitoes at our place due to these mini jet fighters.

Wildfire near #Lyman WA. Map shows satellite heat detections. Data is not real time and there is often several hours between updates.

A strong south wind has come through this afternoon and that will hit this fire if it hasn’t already.

If, like me, you live in the usually soggy #PNW consider this a reminder that things are going to be different here in terms of wildfire. We all need to get savvy about defensible space, ‘go bags’ and multiple evacuation routes.

@ai6yr I did a map for a guy one time where the county GIS property line went through his barn. When I processed the survey he provided it turned out that his property line was about 200 feet away from the barn.

In some areas his survey indicated a fence and I could see parts of the same fence on the back parts of his property. That info let me align the survey data to the Google aerial. The client was quite relieved to see the results.

If you are new to gardening in the PNW then I suggest picking up a copy of the book “Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades, 35th Anniversary Edition: The Complete Guide to Organic Gardening”. This version is the 7th edition of the book.

The author is Steve Solomon. He has a website at https://soilandhealth.org/steve-solomons-home-page/

We buy bulk ingredients and mix our own fertilizer using the recipe in this book. Except a soil test showed our garden soil has plenty of phosphorus so we leave out that ingredient.

Got data surfing?

Here is a video I made showing how to use the web map GISsurfer (I am dev) to split your screen and ‘surf’ data on any ArcGIS server with a public table of contents.

Drill down to a layer on the left side of the screen, click the layer and that data appears on the map on the right side of your screen. You might need to zoom in/out since some data only appears at certain zoom levels.

The video also shows how to make a GISsurfer link to automatically display the layers you have turned on.
