Why are all the AI demos like “hey what’s this?” and they’re pointing it at a fucking can of beans or something

@DavidDarnes 100% a valid use case for coddled tech bros who never had to do groceries I guess

So what am I missing here? I use a US Apple ID, and the region is set to US, but I definitely live in the EU, isn’t that enough?

@rafa US Apple ID connected to a US card means you get US App Store.

In any organization, many people share what they’d like to see as the intentions of the design.

As these people use their influence to define the outcome of the design, they are, in effect, designing. There’s an old saying, everyone thinks they are a designer. Well, everyone who participates in the rendering of their intention is a designer, using this definition.

Throwaway prototyping is a software development approach that involves rapid creation of a prototype with the understanding that it will be discarded after use. The primary goal of throwaway prototyping is to provide a tangible representation of the app functionality early in the development process, allowing stakeholders to visualize and interact with the proposed system.

@Brendanjones @mrcopilot oh I wish this was the case for most tech companies I ever worked with. Prototypes tend to become production features more often than I’d like.

People often use meetings as Band-Aids for deeper communication issues. So when communication isn’t clear and consistent, people either put more meetings on the calendar, or more people show up for meetings because it’s the only avenue for direct communication.

They could have done more, and I am not very hopeful things for Palestians will change much, but we finally have legally established that:

  1. Palestinian exists as a people
  2. The possibility for a genocide happening against them by Israel is real.

I'm just waiting now for the Biden administration to tell us again South Africa's case is 'meritless'.

Every time a train driver strike happens, my favorite people are the "I work 60 hours in a quarry and I get paid in flogging and fermented fish and they keep striking while they already have decent working conditions" crowd.

Can't imagine being so brainwashed that having bad working conditions and not fighting for improvement is a badge of honor.

There is this strange perception that fascism, or any totalitarianism, happens after some dramatic disruptive event, an 'armed coup' born out and perpetrated by some fringe extremists. The March on Rome, it's the classic example you would find on Italian history books.
This narrative, that is very happily embraced by all powers, as it helps avoiding liability and accountability, is very dangerous, and presents a distorted reality.

@alx someone once told me “some people during the Third Reich weren’t members of the party, they worked with them and didn’t oppose them because they just wanted to live in peace. History books have a name for those people: fascists”.

mariusz,
@mariusz@mastodon.design avatar

@alx agreed, and fascists don’t start with hate and concentration camps, they start with security and support for the common folk - two things that unfettered capitalism is optimized to destroy by design because they take power out of the hands of the capitalist class

Users are like kids at Christmas. They say they really want this one thing, but that one thing won’t keep them happy for long.

What will make them happy? Solving their unspoken problems, the problems they can’t quite articulate. And the best way uncover them is to ask really good questions.

Looking at agile through the eyes of a designer, it’s easy to spot the problem: the dogma of shipping small stuff fast so that you can gather feedback on what to do next more quickly. Agilists believe that finished software is not only the best way to deliver value, but also the best way to learn and iterate.

In reality, it is probably the worst way.

Choice paralysis is the phenomenon where users, when presented with too many options, become overwhelmed and often struggle to make a decision. In UX, this could manifest in users spending excessive time on a page without performing any significant action or completely abandoning a task due to being overwhelmed with choices.
