Biden deserves and won't get credit for negotiating with the worst-faith Republicans every to “run” government. I hate the fact that he had to agree to cuts; I love that we’re (likely) not driving off the cliff, which Republicans were apparently absolutely prepared to this time around. Businesses and major donors failed to raise the hue and cry at the GOP about default—they’ve gotten too used to brinkspersonship.

If you weren't on twitter, 99% of the people who favored other candidates happily voted for the less evil candidate because they were less evil. If you were extremely online though, you heard a lot from the small percentage that demanded purity.

What are the best tiny museums in London and Paris?

In London, we’re going to the Sir John Soane Museum, and I’m doing research at St Bride Foundation (not exactly a museum, but tiny and remarkable). In Paris, I don’t know of good ones at all.

In Prague, my older kid and I passed a superb hour at the Dvorak Museum, €4 for adults, €3 for kids, worth every centime!

@mattblaze The suspected killer of 4 college students in Idaho was deemed suspicious when his phone was untrackable for several hours that corresponded to the time of the murder.

I think he just turned if off though, didn't use a Faraday bag.

@absolutspacegrl Teaching my first sailing class of the year in a couple of weeks and the last day of class brings tacking and speed control and general boat handling together in the "crew overboard" lesson.

I will admit I still screw up and occasionally say, "man overboard!" when starting the drill, but I'm aware of it and try to get it right.

So I’m watching over on they’ve “realised” they can train their own model for content moderation and are laughing because it’s flagged up “pestilence” as a word indicating a problematic post. Now I’m no ML whiz but surely they’re going to need a boatload of human work to get this going (tagging, testing, retraining) and it’s not just something to “mess around with” live as they seem to be doing?

The working definition of a mossback is anybody who moved here 5 minutes before you did.

It often feels like mossbacktodon is a thing.

    So Bluesky has its first outright Nazi member and not a real strategy on how to handle that. You can’t block users, only mute them so it leaves the community in danger that you can’t outright stop that user from seeing you.

    This is where these systems fail, when they are so scared of censorship they put users in danger.
