@mxtthxw not gonna argue with the conclusion, but we drink quite a lot of the lavazza blue decaf ground coffee (or beans) and it is not bad between cups of the proper stuff..!
I came up with a motto for Joe Biden's presidential campaign -- Old Enough to Know Better.
I asked ChatGPT to draw a campaign rally with a banner that said that, but it wouldn't do it for Joe Biden, so I changed the name to Bull Mancuso, and had him run for governor of Calif instead of president of the US.
It still couldn't spell the banner correctly but it is pretty inspiring.
I first worked near Covent Garden 29 years ago, and have been in and out ever since. But today’s the first time I’ve set foot in the Opera House. Won’t be the last though… #london
@fitheach that was the year I started working just off the Strand, and occasionally got lunch over towards Covent Garden. My brother and his family now live there so been spending more time in the area recently. Each time I’m there the shops are more up-market!
i don’t think i’ll ever understand monads even though I literally spent years studying category theory in grad school but I really liked this paper “What we talk about when we talk about monads” https://tomasp.net/academic/papers/monads/monads-programming.pdf
I love that it talks about cases where monads have been misapplied and the social aspects of how they’re used
(please do not try to explain monads to me and please no links to your favourite monad explanation)
#AdventOfCode Day 22 done in #Haskell. After the rather weird previous two days where the exact nature of the input played a large role, this was finally a rather straight-forward and enjoyable programming task again.
@kosmikus thank goodness, yesterday’s was a nightmare and more graft than fun (well the second part at least). I hadn’t realised what a time commitment #AdventOfCode was!
@kosmikus same, if it wasn’t for the Sunk Cost Fallacy and the fact there’s a work leader board, I would totally have baled! I’ve been going round like a zombie for the last few days as family and the lead-up to Christmas has filled the days, leaving only the small hours to feed this unhealthy addiction!!
@aoanla@kosmikus honestly if I’d had any idea how much time it was going to soak up, I would never have started! I would consider just doing the first part each day next year, though. Or perhaps a crossword! 🤣
@aoanla@kosmikus yes this is my first year too, and funny you should mention that - some of the people on the work leader board have GitHub repos and I can see those extra years. And their solutions often start by importing helpers as you describe. I had actually initially planned to use this as a chance to learn a new language (lisp) but that’s just a step too far for me now!
@mxtthxw we’ve been doing the Zoe nutrition thing, and they talk a lot about gut microbiome. Food wise it seems to be largely about eating a wide range of different veg, legumes, pulses, fruit etc. Their podcast has a few episodes on the subject that might be worth a listen too.
@Mrfunkedude a few things. First, a lack of distraction - doesn’t try to get me to play candy crush saga, or keep on getting me to install updates etc. Instead it just keeps out of my way. Next, stability - a crash that actually loses anything is pretty well unheard of for me. Updating software is also waaay easier than other OSs I’ve used, too. Finally, hardware support. I’ve used it for something like 20 years as my main platform at this point, love it!
@evan the thing that finally bumped me from an android phone to iPhone was my old OnePlus announcing a system upgrade. I accepted it … and lost critical stuff like NFC, mobile data and gesture navigation for over a month. I’m a bit more wary now!
