In MacOS, I often take a screenshot, right-click on the thumbnail that pops up, then select "Save to Clipboard." I've been doing this for years but still have to parse the words carefully. Why oh why doesn't it just say "Copy"? So much easier at least for my brain to grok. #UI
@mattblaze oh man, was in Union Square at the Barnes & Noble last year, did not know that Warhol’s Factory was right there; now I’ll have to go back :)
All attention on #Gaza and #Israel is good for #Russia in #Ukraine. Russia will encourage and fuel protests in Europe against Israel where possible. At the same time it will support extreme right parties where possible. Maximizing divisions and polarisation. The Russian playbook is very clear if you want to see it. #geopolitics#russia#EU#europe@geopolitics
@nixCraft in my bio is a Dutch poem which roughly translates as “if someone says that Madagascar is in the Atlantic, don’t bother correcting them - it will not affect the location of Madagascar”. I use it to remind myself that not responding is often the best option 🙂
@sjaakkeuvelaar iemand die “genocidegoedpraters” correct spelt als één woord…. Dat maakt de groep mogelijke verdachten in elk geval al een stúk kleiner, want weinig mensen kunnen dat nog ;)
People sending me e-mails, me replying to them only to find out that their mailserver is blocking my mailserver for weird reasons, forcing me to reconfigure my mailserver so I can get through with their mailserver which immediately blocks me again for "abusive behaviour". Well, sorry, fan of my blog. You'll never get my reply I guess. Also dear mailbox.org: your laziness wrt throwing blacklists in your server config is excluding small servers. You are NOT helping with decentralising e-mail.
Ewald Engelen is an opinionmaker who is willingly or unwillingly helping Putin. Quite ignorant in the field of international relations but still people listen to him too much. At least he has summarised his thoughts in an essay that can be discussed.
There are many flaws in his reasoning, one striking is the ommission of any free will of Ukraine where people actually want to live in freedom. https://braveneweurope.com/ewald-engelen-sleepwalkers-redux #Ukraine#Russia#ewaldengelen#geopolitics@geopolitics
@ErikJonker@geopolitics solid attempt to make Kremlin propaganda sound reasonable, have to give him that - but for me the question I’m stuck with is why on earth an intelligent person such as Engelen would, as it appears he does, prefer Putin over what he calls “US imperialism”
@ErikJonker@geopolitics also, that typical far right demand to be debated respectfully, while himself calling the EU corrupt, the US imperialist etc etc, without any argument to support those qualifications, in the very same article
Again the FOSS world has proven to be vigilant and proactive in finding bugs and backdoors, IMHO. The level of transparency is stellar, especially compared to proprietary software companies. What the FOSS world has accomplished in 24 hours after detection of the backdoor code in #xz deserves a moment of humbleness. Instead we have flamewars and armchair experts shouting that we must change everything NOW. Which would introduce even more risks. Progress is made iteratively. Learn, adapt, repeat.
@jwildeboer@jzb Definitely, but my point is: I'm not that confident that this is a demonstration of open source working to detect this stuff early. Yes in this case it's been caught early and not affecting many production systems yet. But, as the hero of this story himself says, it was a combination of coïncidences that led him to find the injection; each one of these circumstances not occuring would have resulted in this being missed.
