All attention on and is good for in . Russia will encourage and fuel protests in Europe against Israel where possible. At the same time it will support extreme right parties where possible. Maximizing divisions and polarisation. The Russian playbook is very clear if you want to see it.

People sending me e-mails, me replying to them only to find out that their mailserver is blocking my mailserver for weird reasons, forcing me to reconfigure my mailserver so I can get through with their mailserver which immediately blocks me again for "abusive behaviour". Well, sorry, fan of my blog. You'll never get my reply I guess. Also dear mailbox.org: your laziness wrt throwing blacklists in your server config is excluding small servers. You are NOT helping with decentralising e-mail.

Ewald Engelen is an opinionmaker who is willingly or unwillingly helping Putin. Quite ignorant in the field of international relations but still people listen to him too much. At least he has summarised his thoughts in an essay that can be discussed.
There are many flaws in his reasoning, one striking is the ommission of any free will of Ukraine where people actually want to live in freedom.

@ErikJonker @geopolitics solid attempt to make Kremlin propaganda sound reasonable, have to give him that - but for me the question I’m stuck with is why on earth an intelligent person such as Engelen would, as it appears he does, prefer Putin over what he calls “US imperialism”

Again the FOSS world has proven to be vigilant and proactive in finding bugs and backdoors, IMHO. The level of transparency is stellar, especially compared to proprietary software companies. What the FOSS world has accomplished in 24 hours after detection of the backdoor code in #xz deserves a moment of humbleness. Instead we have flamewars and armchair experts shouting that we must change everything NOW. Which would introduce even more risks. Progress is made iteratively. Learn, adapt, repeat.

mkoek,
@mkoek@mastodon.nl avatar

@jzb @jwildeboer In the comments on this page on LWN, the person who discovered the issue himself says that the discovery was quite accidental -- so we do have to face the uncomfortable possibility that such things exist that haven't been caught.

https://lwn.net/Articles/967180/

mkoek,
@mkoek@mastodon.nl avatar

@jwildeboer @jzb Definitely, but my point is: I'm not that confident that this is a demonstration of open source working to detect this stuff early. Yes in this case it's been caught early and not affecting many production systems yet. But, as the hero of this story himself says, it was a combination of coïncidences that led him to find the injection; each one of these circumstances not occuring would have resulted in this being missed.

    Somehow i think Putin didn't expect Ukraine could strike so massively, all over Russia. He has at least an internal PR problem..
    Also Putin has to think about how to react. He can't defend all infrastructure in Russia that's simply too much. Also he can't destroy Ukraine's ability to launch drone strikes.. 🤔

    Were EJean to sue Trump just for speech he gave in nw Ga the other day she prob wd have had to sue in District Ct for No. Dist of Ga.

    But now that he libeled her on Squawk Box, anchored in Manhattan, she likely may now sue in Dist Ct for So Dist of NY

    As "early adopters" are no longer the focus, EV sales are falling across the U.S., for a wide variety of reasons, many of which are utterly reasonable. The push was too soon, too fast, and the existing transition mandates are now being recognized broadly as being unrealistic.

    mkoek,
    @mkoek@mastodon.nl avatar

    @lauren @Brendan @mkoek @rootbeerdan Strange. I’ve been driving electric since January 2020 and have never experienced charging issues. Also I would call it under-hyped rather than over-hyped: drove a regular rental car last week and my god that feels slow and clunky. Not going back to fossil fuel cars that’s for sure. But I never see that mentioned: electric is just a lot quicker, more comfortable, and easier to drive.

    mkoek,
    @mkoek@mastodon.nl avatar

    @lauren @Brendan @rootbeerdan The place where I work has a roof full of solar panels. They installed a long line of slow chargers that are pretty cheap. Usually I charge there. Yes the grid needs major upgrades to support large-scale EV usage, but that's no reason not to move forward - upgrade the grid then!
