Gevendort halt 🤷‍♂️😬

n0toose,
@n0toose@chaos.social avatar

@scy Werde das markieren / anmerken, hast du einen besseren Vorschlag (bin kein Muttersprachler)? 😅

(P.S. Wir haben nen 'Forgejo Localization'-Kanal, ich schreib's dort mal hin)

n0toose,
@n0toose@chaos.social avatar

@scy ja, kann's sehr gut nachvollziehen

Something I'm curious about, however, is whether it'd be a good idea to add an explanation (like an ( i ) / information icon) explaining the lingo and what "vendored" means - that would also implicitly fix this problem in the translations.

n0toose,
@n0toose@chaos.social avatar

@scy habe aktuell keine Zeit um den Issue aufzumachen, aber ich habe tatsächlich etwas sehr ähnliches schon mit dem AGit-Indicator getan - hoffentlich vergesse ich das später nicht 😅

@drewdevault Many apartments in Germany require a credit score that you can't have if you haven't lived in Germany before.

It's excluding immigrants by design.

4 new blog posts in April. Seems I'm getting better at sharing my long(er) form thoughts :)

The workflow I now have makes it really easy too. When I have a thread here that I think deserves a blog post, I copy the link to the first toot and paste it in https://mtr.wildeboer.net where I can get a dump that I can copy/paste in my editor and work on. My blog is based and also uses Markdown, so it is easy to do :)

@jwildeboer by the way, by renaming your repository to "pages", you get a nifty icon on the top right reading "Visit Page"

(Just in case you didn't know, as we need to document that better)

I don't get the word "also" in German. It doesn't mean "additionally" like in English, it means "so". So it's just so but with extra steps and I am not sure if I find that bad or good, I guess it's so-so because it's confusing?

One of the most annoying things about being an English-language content creator are the Americans who insist that everything must be about them.

I can make a video that never mentions the US once, and I will get hundreds of responses about the US.

I will get people claiming that I'm wrong because of some issue unique to the US.

I will get Americans telling me that I have a moral responsibility to help them fix their cities, despite the fact that I'm not American and I don't live there.

n0toose,
@n0toose@chaos.social avatar

@martin_ueding @notjustbikes I refer to what you just mentioned as the "capital city syndrome".

n0toose,
@n0toose@chaos.social avatar

@notjustbikes @martin_ueding oh god, yes! "Ah the capital, I have to say, it's not representative of the real country!" is something I've heard about Berlin, Brussels, Athens... from friends or even strangers that don't live near those areas to myself or others.

n0toose,
@n0toose@chaos.social avatar

@notjustbikes @martin_ueding My uneducated guess on that is that it's partly because other people have a picture that people from the capital are self-centered (possibly huge cognitive dissonance on my end here), as they hear about it in the news all the time, hear politicians make statements about that capital only, and then see themselves as being "left out"

I'll call that... inverse capital city syndrome! doesn't make sense but I might as well come up with names for that too, it's only fair!

So I stagger sleepily into the kitchen to make breakfast, and I break an egg open, and it's a double yolk! And I'm like ha ha, rolled an S rank egg. And then I break a second egg, and it's ALSO a double yolk. And I'm like ha… ha but I'm getting a little nervous. And then I break my THIRD egg and it's ALSO a double yolk and I'm just like what the fuck?? Triple double yolk???

@martijn @Codeberg Hi, this is a problem that I have been sporadically thinking about over the past year or so.

Would regular hand-picked recommendations be good enough for you? Would you rather see them in the UI, or would something like a blog dedicated to briefly showing off interesting projects be good enough?

« Running on a special machine » a dual pentium 266 Mhz (hardware released in 1996).

So yeah when I see software is generally sluggish on our cheap quad core 1+ GHz boards I come to the conclusion we’re doing something wrong as a species. Sure they didn’t play 4k videos back then but after 30 years I’d expect a bit more.

Given that @opencollective is shutting down, I have initiated a new effort to donate the funds donated to the @tenacity project () that were ultimately left unused before the project switched hands to the new maintainer.

We (the old team) promised that we'd donate the funds away if "we failed" (the project switched maintainers), yet I could not resolve this matter with the administrator of https://opencollective.com/tenacity or Open Collective themselves despite months of correspondence before.

I submitted a PR that improves 's documentation on : https://codeberg.org/forgejo/docs/pulls/414

Agit means that you can open new PRs to a repository using git push origin HEAD:refs/for/<branch>..., without having to open the web UI, create a fork, create a new branch, create a new pull request and then choose the branch on your tree (as well as the target branch).

Bit messy because it's a bit late, but I hope that the improved documentation can raise some further awareness about that cool feature.

I have a feeling, Fedi users are turning into haters. :blobfoxdeadinside:

n0toose,
@n0toose@chaos.social avatar

@gameplayer @szkodnix to be honest when I made that post I didn't expect it to blow up and I think that it did because people were just cooling down from the whole social media activity situation and because there's an emphasis on "opt-in instead of opt-out" as the previous attempts to make a service based on scraping have shown

n0toose, to random
@n0toose@chaos.social avatar

FYI: Matrix has launched https://archive.matrix.org, which makes logs of public Matrix channels indexable by search engines.

They made the thing opt-out; the bot (@archive:matrix.org) would automatically join out of nowhere and start archiving. You'd have to ban the bot for it to be removed, which is annoying but OK... if they didn't have a second bot ban evade and do the exact same thing right afterwards under https://staging.archive.matrix.org/ using @archive:gitter.im yesterday.

n0toose,
@n0toose@chaos.social avatar

It's definitely ban evasion if you tell an organization that you don't want the service that they forced you to use and they still do it anyways, the nuance of it just being a staging server that could have been hidden from the public (or at least used a robots.txt) is irrelevant.

n0toose,
@n0toose@chaos.social avatar

I don't make call-out posts at all, but figuring out what this bot that joined out of nowhere that started doing things without our request - who operates it? is it malicious? do we want to keep it? - wasted at least 10 hours (and counting) of volunteers deliberating and debating in a community that I participate in.

Why do the volunteer-run communities that trust matrix.org have to clean up the mess by matrix.org? Discord uses announcements when rolling out features.
